It should do great for you as long as you work it into the existing soil. Trees and shrubs don't need anything any different than other plants.

No,garden soil if it's by Miracle Grow will help,but I doubt if the hosta will grow bush sized,but I do have some old hostas that are that size,and they grow in regular dirt! Phil

It's regular NC red clay,amended by nature from falling leaves,year after year. I don't fertilize my hostas,they just grow well in the dirt! Phil
