How many plants are in this picture? Has the color changed since the Spring? Were they bluer then? It looks like the plants have seed pods in this picture. Is that correct?

I'd guess there are 5 to 7 plants. It's hard to tell since they're so "bushy." They're always this color, not bluer. And yes, those are seed pods. I'd gues they've been here for a pretty long time. Any ideas?

Ventricosa. blue/violet bell shaped flowers in July. It's a species, not a cutivar.
