Most just disappear by spring. Have to clean out a few by sidewalk in the spring.

the real upside to fall removal.. is the hope that you take some of those darn slugs with them.. and find those darn slug eggs and kill those ...

otherwise.. if you dont care about slugs.. i agree.. the darn things basically mulch themselves.. whats the point of removing such.. then mulching them again.. riddle me that.. batman ....

Didn't seem to have any issues last fall with just letting the leaves lie...I have more plants this year, but I think I'll just let the leaves lie this year, too.

I never cut off leaves. In the spring,I just pull away the dry leaves in my spring clean-up. My local nursery cuts off the leaves,but they have lots of hostas to deal with. Phil

Since I am not 110% sure that I have no virus on any of the dried up leaves, there will be no voles tunneling under the clumps of old leaves and no slug eggs overwinter under any of the dead leaves, I remove dried hosta leaves and put those in the garbage. For mulch I use chopped up tree leaves and compost, less than 1 inch high.This is not esthetics, it is keeping the place clean. Bernd
