Another progression: Pacific Blue Edger

PBE is supposed to be very similar to Blue Cadet (which I do not have) Medium blue with heart shaped leaves, very dense, symmetrical, neat mound shape. Many, many scapes in June.

I bought a large one from Cory's (again) and divided it into three to place in my garden. Here is one of the divisions when it was new.

No pic in 2011, but here is the same division in 2012. This one grows really fast. By the way, please ignore the garden. It was a mess as I was just begining and transforming a steep hill of weeds and grass to garden beds. I just jumped in with no plan or expertise!

Early 2013, pips just emerging on the same division. Over 50 eyes this year.

The division you've been looking at is just in front and to the left of the red bowl planter. But you can also see the other two divisions from the original plant in this pic. on the other side of the stepping stones.

PBE in bloom. Lots of scapes and flowers.

Very nice to see your Pacific Blue Edger progressions. It sure is a good grower. Neat and compact too. I have a NOID that I thought might be PBE, but now after seeing yours, I think not. Mine is more flat and lacks the height I see of yours. Hosta can change quite a bit from spring to fall, and from year to year, so your progression shots are a real treat!

FlowerFrenzy was talking about changing fall color. Here is PBE this morning (after an overnight rain). Definitely showing end of season changes, Some browning edges, and petioles/leaves flattening out.

Really a nice grower. I need some which will be eager to grow. Think it will like the warm climate? Might have to try one next year.

I'm enjoying all your progressions, and was pleased that you have discovered Pacific Blue Edger. It has been around awhile, but I find that few people know about it. You wonderfully describe its merits: fast-growing, tight neat circles, and lots of blooms. I grow my two as specimen plants, like you do, rather than as edgers, and am always amazed at the number of eyes (over 70 each on plants about 10 years old). I have really enjoyed getting a glimpse of your garden.
