I placed two orders with them this summer and was well pleased with the hosta that I received. Mostly single divisions but of mature hosta. Noticed that the Dance With Me that I planted today was making a new eye for next year. (I potted them up when I rec'd them because the new bed wasn't ready.)

I have ordered and reordered again. The 20%off and free ship and hand over $100 brings the order to $80. Good quality plants that are doing great here. Top notch. Dance With Me is a beautiful plant. Enjoy yours and show pictures when they come in. Paula

I'm down in the same latitude and zone as Paula (Ilovetogrow), and have made three or four orders with GreenMountain, all with good results. I think, most were divisions of mature plants, which is what I prefer to separate eyes of young TC plants, since I am in a hurry to see some mature hosta. I'd say I have about 30 different hosta which came from there. I'd name some of them from my data file, but have that drive disconnected until I figure out what is wrong with my computer. I simply cannot afford to lose a whole year's worth of garden information stored in that file.

Hehehehe, the picture was a bit topsy-turvy, and then your comment brought a big smile. Not exactly the view one expects right enough. But I think it was because the tags were readable that way. Really nice plants with big ole roots. You always help nicely, Steve......hehehehehe

I put them roots up so you could better see the leaves.I put them all in the ground and they look great cant wait till they mature.

Excuse my ignorance but how do you tell if the divisions were from mature plants? I'm a newbie :-)

OK....i'll bite... where is "Green Mountain" jill

Ahhhh, a question that I can answer! Green Mountain .......that is short for www.greenmountainhosta.com which is in Vermont, land of the Green Mountains which are a geographic reality. Do not mistake "greenmountain" with Green HILL Hosta Nursery or www.hostahosta.com which is in North Carolina and is where Nancy and Bob Solberg are located. If you wish to deal with NC plants, must not make a MOUNTAIN out of that HILL. :) And, MissKitty, the way I understand it with a division of a mature plant, you can look at the root system and find that there is a hard piece of crown which has been sliced off the mature clump of that particular hosta. Each eye of the clump is connected by the growing living crown, and that is why they use the term "shovel prune" or recommend cutting with a big knife to get a division of the plant. Okay, if I've not said this properly or left out something, I invite corrections from the cognoscenti. :)

Smaller plants might have a lot of roots, but the crown is of smaller size. For me 'mature' also means that the leaves look about the size of a mature plant with size of height x width defined in the Hosta Library or Mickfield Hostas table (preferred). For example, H 'Dance with Me' would have a height of 22 inches and leaf size would be 7x8 inches. Bernd

Well said, moccasin! I find no problem with how you described it. Plants that are not divisions of mature plants won't have those cut-off portions of a crown, just the roots. phil
