how late a bloomer ...

some peeps.. in the seed growers forum ... used to cut the stalks and put them in sugar water ... trying to get more time for maturity ...

cant recall where you are ... and wondering how that may effect.. good info ... though i am sure... they wont go any further in snow ... lol....

and keep in mind.. dormancy is triggered by soil temps... i would think ... so lets rule out.. air temps.. and frost ... perhaps.. even if a plant is hit hard by frost... it does not mean ... the pod wont keep developing .... though prayer would probably be involved at that point ....

on the other hand.. a freeze makes a difference ....

I do believe that particular bloom opened the last day of August. For me, most everything seemed to bloom a bit later than it should, as we had a very non typical, typical Wisconsin summer. Pollen was tricky, too... cooler wet nights, blah blah n blah! Northern central WI is my location, to be exact. 4b zone.
Not even remembering what it is, although I suspect its whoopee altho I seem to remember I bought a blizzard that's no where to be found, just baffles me. I must start keeping better notes n notes to hint where I left my notes :(

Generally, 6-8 weeks after pollination, the seed is mature. You should be close, but cutting the scape and letting it finish in sugar water for another couple weeks should get you there.

If it was in my yard I'd bring it in...not just because of the cold, but also because the Cardinals eat the hosta seed pods in my yard.

well funny u mention that ConnieMay cuz sumtn, just today, ate the stalk/pods off my Paradigm. Outside of slugs n an occasional bunny bite hear n there... I never had an issue with anything planted right by the house :(
