That's why hostas in pots are so rewarding....You can move them around easily to find the spot they really flourish in. Found that out accidentally when I moved Carnival from a sunny spot on my deck to a more shady area. She looked much better. :)

I can make an argument for potting for the 1st couple of years to quarantine, check placement re size and color combination, etc. Many young plants change a great deal as they age.
