The downside of black walnut trees

'Tis that time of the year! The black walnut trees that shade many of my hosta beds are producing a bumper crop of black walnuts this year and they are all starting to fall at once, breaking hosta stems, making walking on the paths dangerous, not to mention the chance of getting conked on the head by falling nuts. And that hurts!

Besides that, the falling leaf stems cover everything and are knitted together by spider webs, then blanketed with a thick layer of early falling walnut leaves. One has to go out every day or so with a broom and sweep some of that mess off.

Gripe, gripe, lol!
