Extra flower petals on 'Cathedral Windows' hosta

I took the two top pictures on September 17th this year. The third pic was taken much earlier when the flowers started to open up.

This particular blossom has extra petals on it. Also unusual is the order of opening of this flower, obviously one of the last hurrahs for this flower scape - this is the top of the flower bud cluster ... with some lower buds not yet opened. Hosta flowers without exception, to my knowledge, open from the bottom up, usually.

During the summer I also posted pics of 'TallTwister' which had flowers opening from the top as well as the bottom.

I find this cool and interesting.

Anyone else find something odd in their hosta flowers? Seems to me Ken posted a flower pic with extra petals...but it might have been on the topic of Aphrodite....
