Just before 09 frost

Here is a view from the lower beds just before frost last week.

Note in the far background the new wooden steps I built Lois for our 34 th anniversary gift - as we age gracefully we will need stairs to go down to the lower gardens on the hillside!

Gee Bruce, your garden looks a lot like my garden steps. I had to build steps down to my garden, before I could even start to build the garden. My garden is ten steps down from my driveway. I don't,however have railroad ties in levels like you do. My garden is totally gold already, with no green showing anywhere, and a lot of hostas have completely disappeared, and we haven't had any frost either;just one night earlier in the month with 29 degrees. Lots of rain, though, and in fact it's raining right now. This is the wettest October I've ever seen here. Phil

Lovely! Wish my DH had thought of (or better yet, built)steps on our hillside 10 years ago!

We've had snow a couple of times... wish I could see even one hosta standing!

Good to "see" you, Bruce!

That's a very well-crafted and thoughtful anniversary gift. Fall is a great time to show garden structure, and I admire the way you've shaped your lot with gardens.

Top of new stairs - ground level from back door out 15 feet

Lower bed shaded by peach trees I grew from pits ( of great eating peaches) - takes 4 years here with good rains to get this high. Will cut them down in 2-4 years when the oaks and walnuts get tall enough

This yard was bare when I started landscaping it 7 years ago

peach trees for hosta shade

Wow, Bruce...that's the backyard of the house you just bought a few years ago...where you've been planting all the trees and hostas??? I can't believe how fast everything is growing! Looking great! Very peaceful and lush!

You grew those peach trees from peach pits?!? Holy Cow!!!!

I so enjoy seeing what others have accomplished in their gardens no matter how small or large. Thanks for adding more pictures.

This is the time of year we need to see everyones pictures from their gardens. Come on everyone and show us your pictures.

Bruce, you are doing great work! Thanks for showing your landscape. I also love to be outside and see things grow.

Here in zone 5a there are no green leaves any longer, except for hellebores. We had already nights down to 27F, and there is no hosta standing. Therefore there is no picture to show. Tonight we might have our first snow.

It is easy to pick up the yellow hosta leaves, pull them out and put into recycle paper bags for yard waste pickup. Most of the hosta leaves are now gone and the plant crowns covered with chopped tree leaves. This year my old blower / vacuum broke, and I bought a new one with sharp metal blades and slightly higher speed. That was a lot of fun mulching tree leaves, even the wet ones, and lateron placing them right back as mulch on the hostas.

Enjoy the last good days. Here I am waiting for spring.
Bernd
