Making a list.....Checking it twice...

I know it's a little early for Christmas, but not for new Hostas!
Just received the 2010 Naylor Creek catalog and what better to do on a cold, windy and rainy day, than start compiling a must have list!
I'm looking for several in particular and as good fortune would have it, they are offering some of those.
"Blueberry Ala Mode' - white margined sport of ADG (don't think much of the name, but what the heck)!
'Ivory Coast' - wide margined sport of 'Sagae', that emerges yellow and turns white later in the season, on a smaller plant.
'Super Sagae' - White marginated "Sagae'
'First Frost' - White margined sport of 'Halcyon' or Linneman's sport of 'First Frost'; 'Valley's Glacier' I'm leaning toward 'Valley's Glacier', as HL photos shows a wider margin and it's supposed to retain it's blue color during the season.
'Risky Business' - Another sport of 'Striptease'. I find myself collecting those. Do I need a valid reason?....I hope not!
'Snow Mouse' - To add to my collection of the little critters!
That's only a fraction of the one's on my list, that may have to be reduced even further, before submitting by 12/16, to take advantage of the discount. So far, I don't believe there will be a problem meeting the minimum order requirement!

Haven't seen the catalog yet...
a few preliminary thoughts on your list

I don't know about Valley's Glacier, but I think First Frost is a great hosta... my favorite of the white=edged Halcyon's is actually El Nino, which emerges with the crisp white margin on good blue and stays that way all season. FF actually emerges more yellow on greenish blue, then eventually goes through cream edges to white and gets somewhat bluer... There are several coming along as wider=margined versions, but wider margin is not always better, sometimes leading to more tearing, deterioration, etc. The proportion of margin to blue leaf on El Nino is perfect to my eye...

not sure why we want a smaller Sagae, but people seem to like Ivory Coast

"Super Sagae" ??? is that really the best we can do for a name???

Risky Business doesn't actually look like a Striptease sport... since it has a clear white center, it doesn't have a "strip" to indicate it belongs to the family. I was a little disappointed in it, only to find that people often remark on it. Upon reassessment, it may not be much as a Striptease sport, but it might actually be the best, easiest growing, most attractive white centered hosta I grow.

The only two on your list that I have any experience with are Risky Business and First Frost. I love Risky Business. Jim is right... people always comment on its beauty. It gets a fair amount of sun, and as long as I keep it watered, it never burns or fades. First Frost is growing well for me, but I have one complaint. The two I have are planted in bright shade, no sun, and the edges never turn white. They remain yellow throughout the year. I would be sure to plant FF where it gets some sun.

Thanks for the comments and suggestions!

I finally submitted my order, subject to additions before shipping time!
I agree with the comment about Hosta names. I'm not shy about giving some more imaginative names after I plant them in the garden! Since I don't enter the Hosta cut-leaf competition anymore, who would know (or care)!
The one's with wide white edges, such as 'Christmas Pageant', seem to do well for me. The one's with thin leaves, like 'Stained Glass', are the poorest performers here, even in full shade. They are often gone by late summer.

Great Hostas, Lois and great photos! I have a location in mind for 'First Frost', as I'm having to move 'Rainforest Sunrise' to a more shady location. Even our morning sun is too intense for it. Will have to see if it's a suitable location for a tardiana.
