Now we know what Romania thinks of us! And what the heck is "ulei" anyway? I would keep that can up on the shelf for a souvenir. No way would I eat anything from Romania.

We have just returned from a trip to Singapore, Malaysia, and Brunei. Many menus that featured fish had "crap" and "carb". It seems "b's" and "p's" are a tough translation. We still enjoyed carp and crab while there. Where was that can packed?

Oh, goodness MountainMan, we manufacture our own fair share of it. Ha!

In Japan they have a drink called "Calpiss," and every time I heard it I thought for sure I was being offered bovine urine. Some things just don't translate well, eh?

Thanks for the laugh, Don, and so sorry to hear about your sweet vole hunter.

Ken, I've always thought that you cleverly used that word and you know exactly what you started... should have patented it when you had the chance. ;-) What was the other one - "horse poo", "bull poo"?

Don, where did you find that can? I have a few friends that I should sent coal to for Christmas. That product would do even better. )

Esther - please study and try to understand the nuances of the word "tolerance".

My Mom-in-Law is Romanian and I'll eat her cooking in a heartbeat.

  • esther_b

HHZONE4: I do not like the flavor of carp. If it is mixed with whitefish and pike, it is OK in gefilte fish, but I don't like the flavor of it by itself.

Your mother-in-law is no doubt a great cook, but that's HOMEMADE cooking. Nothing wrong with that! It's the commercially prepared stuff like canned fish that I question, as I do not know how sanitary or strict the Romanian "USDA": standards are. That's what I was referring to.

Moc this is how they bag the elephant poo not touched or baged by machines... stricktly organic too

  • tepelus

I was once married to a Romanian. I used to pick on him about the word crap. But then, our word "foot" (with some spelling differences) is pronounced almost the exact way as their word for the F bomb.
