Storing Hosta for the move
| | |
Posted by hussy Illinois (My Page) on Wed, Nov 4, 09 at 11:14
| We will be moving early next year in the late winter months. I have Hosta plants in the ground that have been transplanted with me from my grandmothers farm years ago. I want to take them with us. Its still earlier enough to pull them now, but where do I store them in over the Winter? Where do I keep them till we move. |

| I'm in the NW corner of IL. Just leave them with me and after you're move try and get them back!!! I'll only want and eye or two of each one I don't have for over wintering them. LOL Seriously Ken was right in needing more information. Are you talking about hundreds or just a few hostas? Connie |

I'm sure some of you will have a heart attack when I share what I did recently but I sold my house 3 weeks ago and am probably building but for now am in a large RV so I dug up two horse trailer loads full and 3 truck beds of hosta and other favorites from my yard. Some are in cheap plastic pots but the rest are in BOXES! I have then at my DH's office where I can water them and check on them but that was the best thing I could do. I had about 100 hosta and took most with me - left some of the boring plain ones. I dug up as much dirt with them as I could so they've done very well. When it comes time to take them to their new home I will just re-box them as the boxes will have deteriorated. NO LAUGHING!!! LOL Sunny |

| i hope you mean that the boxes are outdoors.. or a garage... the hosta do need their dormancy.. rather than staying indoors all winter ... i moved 1500 pots in 2000 .. i wont laugh at you ... ken |

1500 pots!! How far did you move them? I will no longer complain about the 60 I plan to move with in the spring! Jen |

| My 'garden' in now outside of my DH's office - sort of protected but outside and my hosta are so prett. Some are already dormant and some still turning orange and yellow. |
