WD is a petroleum product I don't think it could even possibly be safe to spray around plants.

Mike .. that is what I was thinking too . May just stick with the vinegar or slugo or ammonia mixes or copper or beer lol

Without doing any reading up on it, my gut feeling is WD-40 around plants = bad, like Mike said.

WD-40 is used to prevent slug damage on plants in containers, not plants in the ground. You spray a ring on the outside of the container and they can't/won't crawl through it. This would not work on the ground and defin would harm the plants in the ground.

Does anyone have any evidence at all, either anecdotal or scientific that this works? Even if it does, do you know what it does to your garden? Whether or not you spray this stuff on plants you are putting cleaning fluid solvent, mineral oil and liquified petroleum gas (those are the ingredients) into the ground. This is probably a worse idea than putting corn meal on everything. Another example of voodoo gardening.

This is hydraulic fluid on my Agave or Century Plant. This Agave is a tough plant and has been with me for 36 years. The fluid burned the leaves bad. I could not imagine having WD40 in my garden. Sticking to ammonia bath. Paula

A really bad idea. It would be considered pollution, which it is.

I'm not sure it's not voodoo gardening, but I think the pot feet help a lot with slugs on potted hosta. I hardly ever have slug damage. Of course, I'm in Texas, and we have that long dry spell at the end of the summer that would deter slugs in and of itself. Still, if I forget to put the hosta on feet in the early spring, I have damage.

I better option would be to smear vegetable shortening on the pot and then sprinkle it with red pepper powder....all natural garden-friendly ingredients. I doubt that any slugs would cross over it...

The slugs seem like a fight we will never win might as well stick to the organic stuff if your going to put up a battle at all
