Is this enough protection for my pots?

OK, another year, another winter. Another attempt to protect my 18' ceramic plant filled with mini hosts and two other 12" planters, with Wheeee! and heuchie Georgia Peach in them. Last year's experiment was placing a Rubbermaid Brute green garbage can over the stacked pots with a prominent label "Winter Plant Shelter", which was stolen.

This year, I went with 2 large spring green plastic bowls I had poked a hot screwdriver through on the sides, both to ruin them for other uses by potential thieves and to give me a place to hook my bungee cords into. The 18" pot was covered with---now don't laugh, but I know you will---a saucer type plastic sled disk. It fit over the 18" pot with about 3" extending beyond the pot. I put some of the holes I poked into the 2 green bowls a bit too high---do you think a lot of precip can enter the pots through 4 holes approximately 1/8" in diameter? Is a 3" overhang of the plastic sled enough to keep the 18" sufficiently dry?
