Hosta A 2013

Ever since it started snowing my husband is standing in front of the window and watching. If the snow gets much worse, I might let him inside the house. Anonymous

Welcome to the 2013 Alphabet. Let the games begin. Remember post often and keep coming back! Something is always new. Paula

I didn't have much time to organize/label all of my pics, it was a crazy few weeks right before Christmas for me! That said, here is what I have:

    Arc de Triomphe

'All That Jazz'. This is not my plant, and I did not take this pic. Maybe next year mine will be picworthy, but certainly not yet. A fantastic variety that should be in more gardens, in my opinion.

Jan, don't feel TOO badly about your 'Atlantis'!! Here is my 'August Moon'. I know, I know, the planter is waaaay too big for the root mass...HVX, yuck.

    Don B.

EDIT: Wow! MadPlanter, your 'Abiqua Drinking Gourd' is beautiful; Nice work!

Don- what happened to your August Moon that it ended up in the trash? The only thing I can think of is a virus. ABG has been sitting in that spot for at least 10 years. I guess it's just happy there.

As usual, I can't find pictures I know I took. So far my last "A" is a hail damaged Alex Summers.

The Hosta Library's database describes this hosta as vigorous blue. For me it is slow.

Lots of great pictures here. All the ones of Atlantis are impressive. It's been the most difficult of the Sun Power sports for me to get going. I know for sure I'm going to have to move American Icon. My 4 or 5 year old plant is nothing like Bernard's.

Here are a few more A's of mine that have not been shown except the Allan P McConnell. MadPlanter mine looks very different than yours. Are you sure you plant isn't Golden Tiara?

    Adorable

    Afterglow

    Alabama Bowl...new in June 2013

Alabama Gold looking spiffy in its 2nd year

and again Alabama Gold in August 2013 showing the roots spread out as I placed it in the experimental bed by the driveway

Alex Summers was a 2012 Bonus from Hallsons

Alligator Alley new in July 2013 from Naylor Creek

Amber Glass new in 2013, picture taken almost Halloween
It is a fragrant hosta..it's the gold one in this group picture

    American Halo in May 2013

    American Sweetheart in May 2013

Angel From Montgomery came to me in 2011, and I like it better as a small than Ann Kulpa

Ann Kulpa really difficult for me, so if it dies it is GONE.

Annabel Lee, showing the tender chartreuse of a new eye growing in July

Aphrodite now one of several, this one shown in Sept 2013

Aqua Velva, a fragrant growing in the pot with Niagara Falls. It will be moved out to its own pot come spring. The darker duller green is the Aqua Velva.

Aspen Gold in August 2013, with Lucy Vitols for size comparison. Both came from Don Rawson in 2012

Astral Bliss -- Awakening Angel....2 for 1 here. Holding their blue and frosty looks into June in zone 9a is pretty good.

Athena is a big time fragrant new in 2013 from Avalon Acres
    It bloomed in September

Atom Smasher very golden here in bowl with other small/mini.

August Moon sharing a tub with Midas Touch. 2 each in this tub, think I'll be repotting them separately in the spring

Austin Dickinson is brother to Emily Dickinson, and a beau of Mistress Mabel (who was also Miss Emily's editor)...all 3 are fragrant. I always keep these three together. Here they are in August 2013

Autumn Frost is really slow growing for me

Avocado, my DH's favorite hosta, is a major player in the fragrant hosta family. It was a Bonus from Hallsons in 2012

    and that's all folks. :)

MadPlanter, your Aphrodite picture is the prettiest and strongest specimen of that hosta I ever saw. Hope you don't mind I copied it for my computer? It seems I must have seen it before, and this makes twice I've voted it as beautiful!

I think for the rest of the alphabet I will upload my pics straight from the computer using the GWeb uploader. That way, if I should change from Flickr at anytime in the future, GWeb will be able to keep the pictures instead of losing them.

If anyone wonders how to keep the pictures for a long time on the forum, use the GWEB UPLOADER. Only one picture at a time, but they will remain available as long as GWeb keeps the post.

Ludi, you grow the white centered/margined to perfection. I look at yours and say AARRGGHH!! to my rag tag bunch.

Whatever you're doing, it must be right. All I'll try to do is admire from a distance, and feel fortunate if one or two pass muster at my house.

ZCathy, your picture turned out right side up this time, you don't need to apologize, don't get gun shy on us here.......if it needs straightening, somebody will do it, we know what you're dealing with....hehehehe

And Phil, we are familiar with a lot of your hosta, like they were old friends and members of the family. (Especially your Sagae).....so don't you be saying not gonna post em....Your garden has some nicely grown hosta, friend! So put em up! :)

McTavish- Ouch- you're right. Looks like my Allen P. McConnell just joined the list of mismarked NOIDs. There were several just like it; the whole batch must have been shipped with the wrong tag.

Thanks to all who admired Aphrodite. That was last year's photo. I cut a chunk off for a friend this spring, and she did not like being divided one bit, was a much smaller plant in 2013.

    Ludi, those Andrews look marvelous.
