The Leopard cannot change its spots.

Mr. Romney tries to be all things to all people. My grandmother would say, "He hangs his mouth where the soup is dropping".
The trouble is that in this day and age, our utterances and our appearances are recorded somewhere by someone - all the time - or so it seems.
And episodes from our past crop up at inopportune times; at their embarrassingly worst; to humble us.
For most of us who aspire to nothing more than being our regular selves, this is not a problem.
But Mr. Romney who will say anythingto win the votes to get him into the White House should make the effort to remember what he said.
But it is impossible for the leopard to change its spots.

What's the purpose of this thread?

 o
RE: The Leopard cannot change its spots.

Could be for old sayings, like:

A rolling stone gathers no moss.

 o
RE: The Leopard cannot change its spots.

It is not to whom the candidate appeals.
It is who find the candidate appealing.
As for proverbs; how about "Stop and smell the roses!"?

 o
RE: The Leopard cannot change its spots.

Due to the mild winter and strange early spring weather we've had, stopping to smell the roses is a reality for me... for logic and common sense tell me that the scent lingering here, within much of this forum, is often far from sweet and heady, many threads devolving into the stench of rotten politics and the foul odor of those who stand firmly behind such twisted political aspirations and notions.

And the funny thing is... no matter how often the facts are laid out on the table for all to see, the few will never see or acknowledge them. Obama is not a liberal, has never been a liberal, has never claimed to be a liberal, and tries to appeal to a much wider and more moderate, centrist/conservative base... but that would be true conservative, and not today's GOP impression.

When we hear lines like, "anyone BUT Obama" being parroted, we have to wonder at the single source misinformation intake some folks have their ears pressed to.

The GOP candidates being held up for inspection this time around are much like the last batch, only fruit-loopier. It completely boggles the rational mind.

I agree..Obama is more left of liberal than most liberals I know.

Speaking of smelling the roses. Mine have certainly enjoyed this perfect spring of cool nights and warm days.

Whats the purpose of any thread Demi? When did the lights go out?
Surely you must realize as his former opponents realized that the man has a problem with speaking out both sides of his mouth.

I have a Snow Leopard Mac and love it!

 o
RE: The Leopard cannot change its spots.

Surely you must realize as his former opponents realized that the man has a problem with speaking out both sides of his mouth.

Surely you meant Obama. "If I don't have this economy turned around within three years, I'll be a one term president."

Oh well, that just may have been looking into his crystal ball.

 o
RE: The Leopard cannot change its spots.

the economy HAS turned around mrsk, Three years ago, the US and world economies were on the verge of something nearly as bad as the Great Depression. The US now is growing. That is a huge turnaround.

 o
RE: The Leopard cannot change its spots.

jmc, in order for the economy to grow, consumers have to spend money. They don't have it to spend. And now they have even less due to high gas prices. If you can't purchase goods and services, people can't hire. We had a dismal job growth this last report, and it will probably be worse for the next one. The unemployment rate still is above 8% and in reality it is 14.5%.

 o
RE: The Leopard cannot change its spots.

Retail spending report yesterday was more than double expectations....

22 straight months of private sector job growth. The DOW has gained approximately 6000 points since President Obama took the reins.

Considering where the world and US economy was headed the turnaround, while not as robust as any of us would like, is moving in the right direction.

Thank goodness.

 o
RE: The Leopard cannot change its spots.

Wow MrsK, no wonder you don't let, to quote jodik, the "stench of rotten politics and the foul odor of those who stand firmly behind such twisted political aspirations and notions." of this forum get to you. All you have to do is go out and smell those beautiful roses for a breath of fresh air. Can I come to your house for a sniff ever now and then? ;-)

Now, back to the OP

 o
RE: The Leopard cannot change its spots.

Labrea, the OP wasn't worded as a question, and when a conservative starts a thread like this they are excoriated for starting a "bashing thread."

Oh, I get it. THAT's what this is.

Jodik removed all doubt--she bashed posters here to start off. I don't know how we conservatives manage to go about the daily business of working, caring for ourselves, paying our bills, contributing to society and managing not to whine or blame anyone else when we're entrenched in a "stench of rotten politics and the foul odor of those who stand firmly behind such twisted political aspirations and notions."

Also, of course Obama isn't liberal.
Conservatives are just are stupid parrots and don't realize that he's not liberal. Only Jodik's view matters and she doesn't think he's liberal, so he can't be liberal. She says we have our ears pressed to information from a single source.

Jodik is just running her mouth (in this case fingers) because she is dead wrong and does not know where conservatives get their information. She makes stupid assumptions.

Publicly espousing such assumptions and failing to recognize that the view of "liberal" and another's view of "liberal" can both be very different and yet valid, is indicative of...well, it's not an open mind, no matter how many odoriferous flourishes are conjured.
*

Mrskjun, thank you for the photo of your lovely roses!
And, for your generous and kind spirit.

*

Back to bashing Romney and conservative posters.

RE: The Leopard cannot change its spots.

Actually Lady Brat, this is what I'm smelling right now. It's a live oak in my front yard and that is confederate jasmine that goes all the way to the top and out every branch. Smells like heaven.

Photobucket

 o
RE: The Leopard cannot change its spots.

OMG - I have never seen a vine that big for confederate jasmine! It must perfume the entire block if not further!

 o
RE: The Leopard cannot change its spots.

Quel vine! We have confederate jasmine here in Charleston, too, only ours is yellow. And tons of Spanish moss hangs from our live oaks.

I stand by my view that Obama is a Moderate and Centrist.

 o
/////RE: The Leopard cannot change its spots.

esh, that particular vine is over 50 years old. And yes, it does perfume the entire block.

wood, we have tons of spanish moss, just not in this tree, though it does have resurrection fern. The yellow jasmine that is sold in our area is called, Carolina Jasmine.

Only an etch-a-sketch leopard can change his spots. Romney isn't really a liar, he's just sketchsophrenic

 o
Vines

Scientific names might help to distinguish the two:

Gelsemium sempervirens is native to the southeast and is known as "Carolina jessamine" and "Carolina jasmine". It blooms yellow.

I believe what mrskjun has there is Trachelospermum jasminoides which is not native and is known as "Confederate jasmine". It blooms white.

Both are evergreen in warm areas.

Here is a link that might be useful: Trachelospermum jasminoides

 o
RE:/ The Leopard cannot change its spots.

Mrsk and esh, thanks for the correction. I am still relatively new to this climate and have so much to learn about all the many exotic (to me) flowers. Yes, the golden blooming vine is Carolina jasmine. Mea culpa.

I adore the resurrection ferns growing in the live oaks. Had never seen these before....

 o
RE: The Leopard cannot change its spots.

Obama is more left of liberal than most liberals I know.

Perhaps you don't know any liberals. President Obama is to the right of most liberals that I know. Complaints abound; actual actions (NDAA for example, Afghanistan surge), and for not calling out more strongly the Republicans playing their games of filibuster any and everything. They are generally approving of his standing up to the same GOP hawks trying to involve the U.S. in a war with Iran. I might even vote for him this time because of his actions to thwart the Iran-war hawks. I cannot imagine the horrors with John Bolton (or someone of his stripe) as Secretary of State under a President Romney.

 o
Nomenclature

Trachelospermum jasminoides which is not native and is known as "Confederate jasmine"

In Southern California this is known as 'star jasmine' and is just forming buds in my garden. We're a few weeks from seeing flowers.

First time I've ever seen star jasmine in a live oak. The tree canopy doesn't look very dense, so I guess that's why the vine is thriving. I grow mine on fences and obelisks.

 o
RE: The Leopard cannot change its spots.

Wow, MrsK! Outstanding--I would be embarrassed to show you how small my confederate jasmine is after 10 years in my Wisconsin greenhouse :-) Must smell like heaven! Thanks big time for sharing~~

Really helps get that smell out of my head from reading Jodi's post up there. Really offensive, Jodi; the foul stench business brings to mind spewing....eeeoooow.

 o
RE: The Leopard cannot change its spots.

I think the US has a totally unique interpretation of what is 'right' and what is 'left' having nothing at all to do with the origin of these terms. If one could loosely classify the 'right' as representing the interests of banks and corporations and the 'left' as representing the interests of the people I would say that both Romney and Obama are on the right and how far out there is a only a matter of opinion. Explain to me why ordinary people are getting shafted at every turn while corporations get away with murder and politicians graft with impunity if this is not the case.

 o
RE: The Leopard cannot change its spots.

That's beautiful natal. What is the red vine growing there?

ink, because as long as they have us polarized, we are willing to justify anything they do, or don't do.

RE: The Leopard cannot change its spots.

Well, in exchange for a no price negotiation honey pot, the pharmaceutical industry chips in 50 million dollars for propaganda to support the mandatory purchase of private medical insurance, this is considered Socialism.

Out side of Wonderland, that would be considered about as far right as it gets.

 o
RE: The Leopard cannot change its spots.

"Mrskjun, thank you for the photo of your lovely roses!
And, for your generous and kind spirit."

What Demi said.

"OMG - I have never seen a vine that big for confederate jasmine! It must perfume the entire block if not further!"

I would think so, esh! Does it, Mrsk?

Ron is right. How Mr. Romney will govern if he is elected is unknown.

At the same time, we CAN assess the "path we are on" after one term of Obamanomics. "What has it gotten for me?" is a question each person will have to answer for him or herself.

As David Axelrod said so eloquently, "the choice in this election is between an economy that produces a growing middle class and that gives people a chance to get ahead and their kids a chance to get ahead, and an economy that continues down the road we are on, where a fewer and fewer number of people do very well, and everybody else is running faster and faster just to keep pace."

I hear libs argue that Ann Romney (who isn't running for president) would be of limited use to American women as first lady. They ask "What could SHE possibly know about the challenges of ordinary American women? According to Obama donor Bill Maher, she never had to get her "a$$" out of the house.

Meanwhile, our "community organizer for president" supporters are eager for four more years of an America "run" by a man who had the skill sets to get himself elected once, but who has absolutely NO first hand experience in the challenges faced by American business.

Since the balance of power has favored Obama and the Democrats for nearly four years now, and America remains in the dumps, I think there's a good chance Americans will be ready for change. We tried spending our way to prosperity and have the debt to prove it. We have gained little and lost so much.

I am so tired of this administration. I continue to hope ordinary Americans like me are ready for a fresh start and some new faces in the White House. The last think I want Obama entrusted with is four more years and "more flexibility" to do as he pleases.

 o
RE: The Leopard cannot change its spots.

Which is why we need to eliminate all taxes on capital gains, dividends, and do away with the estate tax.

You poor, baby the truth is hard to swallow and the smell is worst. But just smell the stench, and swallow your medicine so you can heal.

Jodik gave you a big cupful of meds, maybe she should just give it to you a spoonful at a time. It must be difficult to take so much of the truth at one time.

Really helps get that smell out of my head from reading Jodi's post up there. Really offensive, Jodi; the foul stench business brings to mind spewing....eeeoooow.

MsK what a beautiful rose garden you have. I have been trying to put together a rose garden. Roses are not good for my climate especially since I like Tea Roses. They are not hardy for my climate.

 o
RE: The Leopard cannot change its spots.

That is gross, Marq. That doesn't gross you out? Are you a retired Medical Examiner or something? Yuck.

Good rap, Demi. And David, I couldn't agree with you more on the estate tax :-)

 o
RE: The Leopard cannot change its spots.

I hear libs argue that Ann Romney (who isn't running for president) would be of limited use to American women as first lady.

Who said that?

They ask "What could SHE possibly know about the challenges of ordinary American women?

That statement, I believe, had to do with the fact that Romney said he would use her to advise him on women's issues, including women's issues in the workplace. Since she is not working outside the home, the point was what does she know of workplace issues for women?

 o
RE: The Leopard cannot change its spots.

Mrs K:"because as long as they have us polarized, we are willing to justify anything they do, or don't do" wise words that make it all the more surprising why you initiate so many polarizing threads.

 o
RE: The Leopard cannot change its spots.

Ink, I don't think a thread can polarize anyone. It's pigheadedness and closed minds.

MrsK has a valid point, IMO. So many people have a problem admitting they were wrong or that they don't know the answer, what to do. It's easy to just move your mouth, brain engaged or not. ;-)

 o
RE: The Leopard cannot change its spots.

I got polarized under Reagan. I got radicalized under Bush II. The two worst Presidents in my lifetime.

Gardeners on Hot Topics

Wow natal, beautiful jasmine and flame vine. Is the rest of your yard as beautiful as that corner?

I used to have a rose garden, had about 40 different varieties but lost them when I got hit by the eighteen wheeler. I was not only out of work for a year but couldn't work in my garden either so I lost almost everything. Going to try to get my rose and bromeliad gardens going again this month.

As for "hanging his mouth where the soup is" I think Obama is rather fond of that soup too. By the way, never heard that expression....definitely fits both examples though.

 o
RE: The Leopard cannot change its spots.

"It's easy to just move your mouth, brain engaged or no" as you so eagerly demonstrate.

 o
RE: The Leopard cannot change its spots.

I am starting to get some leaves on my roses-very cold damp spring just like the last two years.
Marquest-when you say Tea roses I presume you mean Hybrid Teas? since I cant grow Tea roses-not warm enough-they dont freeze here, they peter out. Get yourself the Gallica Surpasse Tout for the cupped flowers you love and for length of bloom the Damask Ispahan.
I miss that soft southern air that holds the scents so well.

From my perspective Obama is seriously right of center but unfortunately the best we can do these days. A real liberal cant get arrested in America let alone elected-or rather would be arrested?

Have not seen anything since to indicate the graph shown on this forum before that put Obama just off the center was incorrect.

 o
RE: The Leopard cannot change its spots.

We tried spending our way to prosperity and have the debt to prove it.

Really? Were you complaining during the Bush 8 years when we went from a surplus to a huge deficit thanks to unneeded wars?

And, I guess you missed those posts with links about how Obama is spending less than Bush did. Or, more likely, you didn't bother to click on the link. Not surprising.

Natal and MrsK - absolutely GORGEOUS! So envious. I do not have the time or patience to have that, plus the deer wouldn't allow it anyway. But, boy would I love to look at that out my window every day! Just beautiful! Thanks for sharing that.

 o
RE: The Leopard cannot change its spots.

We tried spending our way to prosperity and have the debt to prove it.

uh, a large part of the debt comes from cutting revenue, starting two wars, and handing out a fat gift to the pharmaceutical industry with the non-funded Medicare prescription program.

But everybody knows that. These threads are just to see if anybody has developed amnesia yet.

 o
RE: The Leopard cannot change its spots.

These threads are just to see if anybody has developed amnesia yet...

other than those writing their revised version of recent history. And they must have amnesia because I can't believe that they would deliberately try to mislead us about the legacy of the Bush Administration.

 o

But everybody knows that. These threads are just to see if anybody has developed amnesia yet.

And apparently, David, lots have.

 o
The Leopard steps up to bat.

Oh, Jill!

David tosses a softball and we both step up to hit it at the same time -- with essentially the same thought.

At least we won't be accused of being the same person; mille grazie to the time stamps.

 o
RE: The Leopard cannot change its spots.

Funny left minds run alike. I was ready to come back and post the same thing. Convenient amnesia on the part of mrsk and demi. In what administration did we go from a surplus to a big deficit? Did you complain about the two unnecessary wars your little hero got us in along with his Darth Vader VP???

Mrsk..love the jasmine vine. I'll bet the fragrance is wonderful. Everything is blooming in PA too, but I'm not happy about it because we're so much above normal in temps. I'm scared what the summer will bring, and we're in a drought as well. My daughter ran the Boston marathon yesterday in 90 degree heat. It's usually 55 for the marathon. She finished the whole 26.2 miles and almost collapsed.

 o
RE: The Leopard cannot change its spots.

Not that I would have voted for him anyway, but when Romney said something to the effect of: "Howdy y'all. I just had some cheesy grits...", it totally turned me off.
I thought Plastic Man talking to the audience and if they were taken in, shame on them.
PS.- My Wisteria smell and look great too. Unfortunately, they are a first cousin to Kudzu and have the same habits: generate their own nitrogen and choke out everything they climb on.

As if Democrats haven't been flushing money down the toilet as fast as they can...since 2008.

But hang in there, David. That $500 billion tax increase your party plans to saddle Americans with will be here on January 1, 2013. Americans have even LESS money to spend than they do now. That'll be a huge boost to the economy!

 o
RE: The Leopard cannot change its spots.

You do know, nik, there was a big defecit at the end of Bush's presidency, right? And that there was a surplus at the beginning of his presidency, right? Or are blaming the democrats for that too?

And, of course the fact that you keep ignoring that Bush SPENT MORE THAN OBAMA.

David, nancy and lily - I fear there's a lot more than amnesia at play here. Or maybe I'm just talking to myself here since we must all be the same person :-)

 o
RE: The Leopard cannot change its spots.

These guys are stuck with Romney, they are liable to say and believe anything in their utter dispair. They are stuck with defending the guy. Have pity on them.

Esh, thank you for correcting Nic and her absolute misrepresentation of liberals and their thoughts on Mrs. Romney. Not that it will do any good, she must think this in order to prop up the other garbage she must believe in order to vote for Romney.

It's that or she doesn't have one iota of reading comprehension.

Or both.

Poor thing!

 o
RE: The Leopard cannot change its spots.

Speaking the facts, the vetted facts, and actually having an original thought to go along with them, sure beats copying & pasting everything to death. But as Mylab states, "they are liable to say and believe anything in their utter dispair...", and with this in mind, it's sometimes necessary to keep doing that copy & paste thing.. so one can convince oneself that there's a reason in there somewhere... that the conclusion picked up through that one source, does somehow make sense.

Pity? No, Mylab... more like pathetic, the sticks and stones hurled in here instead of some honest to goodness debate, or answers to questions... even a solution or two would be welcome, as long as it was rational and could be backed up by real facts.

Yep. But Democrats deserve ALL the credit for the new 2013 Obamacare taxes. Just think of how grateful Americans will be to find out they owe thousands more in taxes!

I just wanted to share the good news. Those infernal Bush tax cuts will be GONE! Yayyy! Our economy should really start to thrive once people have even LESS money to spend than they do now. Less money for the American people, more money for government. That's what Obamanomics is all about. Such an exciting time to be a Democrat!

"Just think of how grateful Americans will be to find out they owe thousands more in taxes!"

I'm waiting to "find out", at present we're being taxed just shy of $1K per month for health ins. The US being a civilized society can do much better than that for it's people on this particular issue. If the government drowns under corporate influence then we drown with it.

If you prefer a Corporate States of America that's your choice. I prefer a representative government even with all it's flaws, afterall WE (the wee people) are the government and we're all that stands between us and a bought and paid for corporate run government. The corporate world will do anything to cut their own taxes. Clean up the money and the government will work best to get the nation's business done.
