Educating the best & brightest

Just another isolated incident in a Nation of various forms of isolated incidents!
"Postal carrier Iran Becton said about a week after Memorial Day he had an order to deliver dozens of postal supply boxes to the Phi Delta Theta fraternity at 56th Street and University on campus.

The Sun-Times Mary Mitchell reports, it took Becton six or seven trips to deliver the packages until one of the fraternity members told Becton to read the name on the order “Reggin Toggaf” backwards.

Reversing the names, the first name is a racial slur. The last name is a slur for gay men."

Yes this isn't a hot topic it's an outrage!

This isn't a prank it's institutionalized hate!

Here is a link that might be useful: Prank no it's not a prank

Again... what is wrong with people?

RE: Educating the best & brightest

I am no longer familiar with all the different fraternities or sororities so I looked this one up to see who we were talking about. My search failed. I mean it wasn't that there was no listing, my computer just couldn't do a search. ???? Another ugly piece of "mischief"?

Fraternities, (should I say some?) have always done some ugly things, I guess it hasn't changed. This was ugly doubled. Hope they can prove who did it and maybe ban that particular group from campus. Since you can order up to 500 packages free over the phone or computer, I wonder if there are going to be any legal penalties.

Off Topic -- bragging

My niece and my brother are up in the Bay Area today to enroll her at UC Berkley. My niece just graduated as her high school's valedictorian. She received $37,000 in grants and scholarships. She was accepted at four California state universities and chose UC Berkley. Her GPA was listed as 4.15? I didn't know it could go that high. Anyway, she wants to become an obstetrician.

Both her younger brother and sister are also at the top of their classes.

Congrats to your niece Ron...and clearly her parents too...and no doubt the good influence of her Uncle...who I consider amongst the brightest lights here!

RE: Educating the best & brightest

More congrats to your niece, Ron.

I was at the Univ of Chicago's commencement on Sat because my dear spouse earned a master's degree after going nights and weekends for 3 1/2yrs. It was a very good ceremony - direct and to the point. No outside commencement speakers - always faculty. I would bet that some of the frat members were in attendance as well. The commencement speech was right on target, especially given this set of circumstances.
