| BROKEN GOVERNMENT when the majority vote "looses".
clip: Republicans successfully filibustered the DISCLOSE act in the senate today. Democrats lost the cloture vote by margin of 51-44. 60 votes are required to bypass filibuster. The Democracy Is Strengthened by Casting Light On Spending in Elections (DISCLOSE) act would have required that any organization spending more than $10,000 on an election report it within 24 hours and identify the donor. Can we say all pretenses are dropped now? |
Follow-Up Postings:

| I can't see how anyone can possibly be against transparency and disclosure. Mind boggling. |

| I agree, Esh... and it seems we lose a little more each day. Though, exactly which form of government will replace the one we have now remains to be seen. Will we end up a theocracy, a plutocracy, a dictatorship, a fascist nation, or all of the above? |

| I'm in favor of DISCLOSE and against the Senate vote. Government for sale to the those with the deepest pockets. |

| The devil is in the details. As written, it would be possible for an unscrupulous government entity to use the information to refuse legitimate bids from a contractor because they donated to the wrong candidate. Another objection is that certain unions are excused from the same disclosures. |
