Three more families were dismantled when their soldiers were killed while "defending our freedom" in Afghanistan.:(((

LASHKAR GHAR, Afghanistan (Reuters) - An Afghan police commander and several of his men killed three U.S. soldiers in the southern province of Helmand, turning guns on them after inviting them to a dinner to discuss security, Afghan officials said on Friday.

The men were all American special forces members and were killed on Thursday night while attending a meeting in the Sarwan Qala area, in what appeared to be a planned attack by rogue Afghan forces.

"During dinner, the police commander and his colleagues shot them and then fled. The commander was Afghan National Police in charge of local police in Sangin," a senior Afghan official told Reuters on condition of anonymity. Sangin is a district.

"It looks like he had drawn up a plan to kill them previously," the official said.

Get them out of there.

I haven't seen the statistics, but this year it seems that Afgan military/police are killing more NATO/US troops than the IED's.

It gets pretty hard to spin the value of staying there if the people you're trying to 'help' are the ones killing you.

I was so angry this morning! I'm done asking "why". Just get out!

Yes get out so we can "bring democracy" to Syria and/or Iran ... so many wars, so little time.

Lord help us if we "cut" military spending, lets cut social security, medicare, medicaid and food stamps.

Onward Christian Soldiers marching off to war.

This said by a soldier.

Get used to it because if Romney , the war hawk and his minions who are Bush /Cheney people get in ,there will most definitely be an Iran war..maybe Syria.

RE: Slight Interruption

Yes I could not believe this morning right after the news report of this incident they were yelling about why President Obama has not put boots on the grounds in Syria.

When the President pulled the troops out of Iraq the Republicans were pounding on the walls screaming we should not leave. McCain was on the Senate floor screaming we should never leave Iraq. We had not won the war yet. We have millions of millions more American citizens to kill on foreign land.

It is like the Conservatives are bi-polar. Oh my they cry about how they are killing our young people in Afghanistan we should send them to Syria to be killed they will not die if they are killed in Syria.

If we put boots on the ground the deficit goes up and President Obama is the worst President ever. He is spending our money so fast. Hand ringing starts and HT is buzzing "What will happen to our children with this huge deficit" they say. That horrible Obama he does not know what he is doing. We have to cut Social Security, Welfare, Food Stamps because our American children of the poor do not need food. Who needs seniors they cannot fight wars. We have to fight for the freedom and happy life of the world.

Then they are so happy to report the last country they invaded can vote for their new leader and America has freed them. But the same bi-polar Conservative say we must find a way to stop some of the American citizen's vote.

So all the anybody but Obama remember this next time the wars Romney has promised you.

I do not get the logic.

RE: Slight Interruption

I do not get the logic

Because there is no logic. If there was, than you would have been able to say what you did, because, none of what you said would be going on, being threatened or be anything to worry about.

The GOP is obsessed with war mongering as a way of winning elections and attempts to do anything and everything to convince the public that it is the right thing to do.

It's like the got to fight here, got to fight there got to prevent the "commies from taking over" got to be sure we are safe and not threatened by the, well pick someone, something, some country, insert the boogie man, the who the heck knows who or what.

Just keep that military expenditure up, invasions going anywhere and everywhere we don't like someone.

It seems to be the way of the GOP.

War mongering, scare tactics, got to be the ones to save the world from themselves and the evil countries, you know the countries we decide happen to be the evil countries at the moment.

And that Democrat in the White House. he does nothing to protect the world, protect the country, protect whomever. Yup everything is that democrats fault, and when he does something militarily, that's no good either cause it costs money to do it and we don't have it, but don't do it, don't spend the money militarily, don't send the troops and thats no good too.

Kind of makes ones head spin around and around and around again.

Maybe that's what the GOP want, the peoples heads spinning around so much that they can't figure out that the GOP really makes no sense, but they "sound good" so people will vote for them.

YUP, there is no logic in the GOP thought process or what they say.

RE: Slight Interruption

Just contemplate for a minute how much money we spent on two wars for ten years, and how that money would have helped build OUR infrastructure and pay down the debt.

 o
RE: Slight Interruption

Lily: not all the money spent on those wars left the country, although some of it might be in off shore bank accounts. The US armament industry is huge and the US government is its best customer and the US taxpayer the biggest loser, next to those send to 'defend' you.

RE: Slight Interruption

Ink is right-why do we fight wars? Without wars the money pit dries up. The real source of our deficit-movement of wealth from citizens to the Military industrial complex.

That was the way it was before NAFTA. During war time the US was booming. Steel Mills in Pittsburgh was pumping the smog covered the city. People had work, money, healthy economy.

Fast forward to today. Steel is no longer made in the US. The technology is done over seas. The private companies Halliburton got the contract but that is concentrated and the jobs are overseas. The contractors income made overseas is tax free so there is no tax benefits the Corporations....well we know what they are doing with that money.

Mr Halliburton King the Dick made a special visit to the Congress when he realized his steady Government income was headed for a cut to informed his War criminal Republicans of the tactics that they would have to demonstrate until the election.

All you have is a the military and the return needing extreme health care is a drain of continued disability and that extreme health care. It is a lose, lose situation for the Country and our young people and win, win for the few at the top.

RE: Slight Interruption

Bring the troops home now. Free up that money to repair our own crumbing infrastructures here in the US. The Hawks never seem to leave their battle mode. They are still in the mindset of the cold war, before the USSR fell. And, worst of all, they seem unable to learn from history: e.g. Vietnam. It is this mindset, besides the greed, that I believe will be this nation's ultimate downfall.

To put it in perspective... Total 20 here on American soil.

I am by no means am saying we should stay and fight a fight that should never have happened. But because they are being killed by the very people they are there to protect is not a reason to scream bring them home.

There are a lot reasons we should be out of there but because there are a couple of looney tunes among the people should be put in perspective.

July 20 Colo. A gunman wearing a gas mask set off an unknown gas and fired into a crowded movie theater in suburban Denver theater at a midnight opening of the Batman movie "The Dark Knight Rises," killing 14 people and injuring at least 50 others, authorities said. police released a list of all 14, including a navy service member and a six-year-old girl.

6 slain at Wis. Sikh temple

We have our own homegrown terrorist killing our Soldiers, American Men, Women and children here at home.

There is basically no safe place left. Between war, crime, and the hatemongers... we're no safer here than if we lived in the Middle East.

We tune in for news to a station on the east coast, and I can't believe the number of daily shootings and murders within the boroughs of New York, alone! And that's EXCLUDING every other city or place violence happens. It's sad, disheartening, and so unnecessary.

RE: Slight Interruption

KABUL, Afghanistan: An Afghan policeman opened fire on NATO forces and Afghan soldiers Monday morning in the fifth apparent attack in a week by Afghan security forces on their international partners. The U.S.-led military coalition says none of its service members were killed.

-snip -
A recent rash of "green-on-blue" attacks, in which Afghan security forces or attackers wearing their uniforms turn their guns on the coalition troops training them, has raised worries about a deterioration of trust between the two sides as well as the quality of the Afghan police and soldiers who will take over full security responsibility for fighting the Taliban when most international troops leave by the end of 2014. It also raises renewed worry that insurgents may be infiltrating the Afghan army and police despite heightened screening.

NATO spokesman Charlie Stadtlander says an initial investigation indicates the attacker was an Afghan police officer, though the man was wearing civilian clothes. He says the shooter escaped.

snip -

At least seven American service members have been killed in the past week by either their Afghan counterparts or attackers wearing their uniforms.
Coalition officials say a few rogue policemen and soldiers should not taint the overall integrity of the Afghan security forces and that the attacks have not impeded plans to hand over security to Afghan forces, which will be 352,000 strong in a few months. But there is growing unease between international troops and their Afghan partners and that's something Taliban insurgents are happy to exploit.

The Lion in Winter (1968)
Screenwriter(s): James Goldman

Origins of War - and Peace

Play clip (excerpt): The Lion in Winter

In the year 1183, Eleanor of Aquitaine's (Katharine Hepburn) annoyed, despairing lecture to her sons about the origins of war -- and peace, and how humans were barbarians:

Oh, my piglets, we are the origins of war, not history's forces, nor the times, nor justice, nor the lack of it, nor causes, nor religions, nor ideas, nor kinds of government, nor any other thing. We are the killers. We breed wars. We carry it like syphilis inside. Dead bodies rot in field and stream because the living ones are rotten. For the love of God, can't we love one another just a little? That's how peace begins. We have so much to love each other for. We have such possibilities, my children. We could change the world.
