Romney is a Birther

Posted by jerzeegirl 9 (My Page) on

Speaking about his Michigan roots, Romney said, "No one's ever asked to see my birth certificate. They know that this is the place that we were born and raised."

The joke was received with hearty applause by the audience. Still, it was an awkward moment for the candidate to play on the birther conspiracies that have plagued Barack Obama since he ran for president in 2008, even after the president released his "long-form" birth certificate in 2011.

The Obama campaign quickly responded, with spokesman Ben LaBolt saying that Romney was embracing the most extreme elements in the conservative movement.

That is so out of line - Romney is such a jerk!

Oh wow! Wonder if Orly Taitz, the batsh*t crazy lawyerin' dentist, would be on his short list for a cabinet post.

 o
RE: Romney is a Birther

It is good. There is a lot going on with his campaign. They have changed the program because they are afraid the Ron Paul people are going to object. He thought bringing Ryan on as VP would grab the base. That has not worked as he hopped when the crazy abortion guy started. So he sees the Racist part of the base slipping because they are upset that he asked Mr Abortion guy to step down. It is his only ticket. He needs to play the race card for them. He only has that base and the anybody but Obama crowd. The base has shrunk to the lowest common denominator of the US.

Desperation is good. You make mistakes. The Sarah Palin Race thing was very helpful to the election of President Obama. Americans do not like that race thing it is ignorant.

It is desperation nothing more. He is doing what he thinks will work.

 o
RE: Romney is a Birther

Romney is a desperate POS!

 o
RE: Romney is a Birther

What a ridiculous comment to make, especially from the guy who is saying that the Obama campaign is hitting low.

....but it doesn't really matter. Those who will vote for him won't care what he says , they will vote for him no matter what.

 o
RE: Romney is a Birther

Good to see him getting down in the dirt.

 o
RE: Romney is a Birther

Sparked a lot of Twitter activity. One sample: "Mitt, nobody asks for your birth certificate because you can't claim deductions on it."

Romney needs any port in the storm and he's simply pandering - for all the things Romney is not, he is smarter than your average birther. If he thinks this is going to deflect attention away from his tax returns and the Republican platform planks, I don't think it's going to work.

 o
RE: Romney is a Birther

You know what I find incredible ?

Given all the distractions of this past week Romney really needs to get back on message. So what does he do? In a speech that was suppose to be about the economy, suppose to reposition the campaign back on message, he makes a dumb a$$ statement and now that is what is getting the attention....not smart...not smart at all.

 o
RE: Romney is a Birther

ROMNEY TROUBLES.... He is getting it on all fronts. From the Tea Party and Libertarian.

He is desperate. He has the anybody but Obama.

Akin problem...... Huckabee is not happy

Huckabee could help Akin rake in small donations from rank-and-file Christian conservatives

The former Arkansas governor and presidential candidate weighed in with a fiery defense of Akin and a call for pro-life Republicans to defy party leaders and their "sleazy" efforts to force Akin out and "feed his body to the hungry liberal wolves."

GOP panel ejects Maine delegates behind Paul

The dispute highlights lingering tensions between wings of the Republican Party ahead of the convention. In a peace offering, Mitt Romney's campaign has announced plans to air a tribute to the libertarian-leaning Paul during the convention.

 o
RE: Romney is a Birther

Get back on message? Whatever his message is seems to be lost. The debates will be interesting. When scripted he seems to do better - throw him something his handlers forgot to brief him on and he's floundering out there in the ether.

 o
RE: Romney is a Birther

He was playing to his base. That's just the way they are. They can't find Kenya on a map, but they insist they can balance the budget, grow the economy, and drawdown the debt. Uh huh.

-Ron-

 o
RE: Romney is a Birther

Get back on message? That's a chuckle. He doesn't know what the message is unless his handlers tell him and how to respond with talking points. He's a loose cannon. Maybe you were born in Michigan, Mitty, but where's your money?? Huh?

 o
RE: Romney is a Birther

Romney can't get "back on message" cause he doesn't know what the message is.

Flip Flop, Flip Flop.

There was no reason to make the comment he did, joke or otherwise. It was a deliberate attack on Obama, an attempt to bring back the birther garbage because he's getting more and more desperate.

Nothing is going his way.

I thought I read somewhere on line that he is pissed off at the networks because they are covering so little of the convention and his wife was going to speak, sort of open the convention or something like that and praise "the Mitt".

But no coverage from the networks. Ann was supposed to make him look good to women or something.

Romney is so far out to lunch, it's pathetic.

Nothing is going his way, even mother nature is not cooperating for him.

And the GOP thinks they can win in November with these idiots and Romney as the "newly anointed one".

 o
RE: Romney is a Birther

Romney said "No one has asked to see my birth certificate". Well, why not? Are we to take him for his word? Is only ONE president singled out to show his birth certificate? You either examine all candidates birth certificates or none of them.

 o
RE: Romney is a Birther

But no coverage from the networks. Ann was supposed to make him look good to women or something.

None of the commercial networks but PBS is covering her speech (as is MSNBC and a few cable networks). Ironic, though, as the GOP wants to eliminate funding of PBS.

 o
RE: Romney is a Birther

It's foolish to joke about it. Why doesn't Romney force Obama to run on his record, which is a very poor one.

A POS? NO. He's not a POS, Lily. Degrading any human to that level speaks very lowly of your character. I hope you're not endorsed by your close liberal friends here.

 o
RE: Romney is a Birther

Good to see him getting down in the dirt.

 o
RE: Romney is a Birther

I'm glad he announced that he is a birther.

If they lose this election, it gives the brains of the silent GOPs all the more incentive to get rid of the idiot losers running the show, dump the target of Palin sort of people they have been pandering to and then we will see more people of the caliber of Huntsmann appealing to the higher caliber of conservatives who hate all this brainless "appealing to the lowest common denominator" section of this country - and then take the party back.

Spew on is my opinion.

Between the silly ridiculousness of R % the other sort of ridiculousness of the other R in this team, a loss will be the gain of everyone in the entire country much less the GOP - for decades upon decades to come, I suspect.

They can get by with enough of the stupid vote for only so long, and the intelligent and true American conservatives know it and have begun to say it. If this team loses, I expect a much louder voice of a great many conservative politicians in the immediate future, following the election.

If they win, in eight years the GOP will fall apart and a new GOP will form. Stupid can't put an iron fist on the country for very long without everyone uniting in a revolution.

My opinion

 o
RE: Romney is a Birther

Sorry I offended you ,Brush. I have zero respect for Romney. Dislike him as a person, and even more cringe at the thought of him and the whack jobs destroying this country like they're doing to PA.

 o
RE: Romney is a Birther

Romney is acting like a junior high school kid. He's twice the bully that George Bush was with half the intelligence. Bad combo.

 o
RE: Romney is a Birther

Pandering to another part of the GOP, the Birthers.

Doesn't matter if he believes it or not. He brought the subject up in a speech, brought it up deliberately did it, brought the stupid subject right back up into the forefront of the campaign and all those birther idiots will crawl back out from under the rocks, or where ever they are and start the whole stupid crap all over again.

Romney did exactly what he "was told to do", no doubt about it. He's nothing more than a sock puppet for the wacked out right wing, or any other part of the GOP that pulls his strings.

"The anointed one" of the GOP, with the intelligence of, not a heck of a lot, and the best he can do is let the idiots of his party pull his strings and dictate what he says and does.

And this, of course, is what the GOP want for a candidate.
Anyone but Obama, so the chorus goes.

And add the stupidity of the birthers and his idiocy with the comment made today.

disgusting at the very least.

 o
RE: Romney is a Birther

I think it was a funny joke. Wasn't it Hillary that started this whole thing anyway?

 o
RE: Romney is a Birther

Not important.....a feeble joke that endears him in some circles.

The significant thing, as I mentioned up thread, is that his"real" message got lost to his feeble joke. So yet another day goes by talking about anything but what he should be talking about.

 o
RE: Romney is a Birther

While humor can be hard to explain Houseful would you mind explaining why you thought it was funny? It struck me as lame and ill advised since it was bound to bring out the birthers in full cry but why funny? Or did you mean funny- peculiar?

 o
RE: Romney is a Birther

"I thought it was funny."

When I read that I immediately thought of a reply from a former friend who emailed me a very racist "joke" and when I called her on it, her reply was "I thought it was funny." She was obviously unaware of how racist it was. It wasn't the first time she'd sent me a racist email that was supposedly was funny, but it was the last as I have blocked her from sending me any more messages.

What I'm saying is, houseful probably doesn't have a clue what Romney's "joke" was really all about, just as my former friend had no clue about how racist she was (she is in Michele Bachmann's district, BTW.)

 o
RE: Romney is a Birther

I watched his remarks as it was played and replayed all night. Whatever else his handlers told him to say today was lost in his ad lib(or was it ?) He is SO stilted and so robotic. I thought Bush was bad, and he was, but this guy is worse. Absolutely NO social skills at all. What a loser the GOP got this time.

And House, thinking it was funny says a lot about you.

"A POS? NO. He's not a POS, Lily. Degrading any human to that level speaks very lowly of your character. I hope you're not endorsed by your close liberal friends here."

Yes, that was very crude. So...lily.

I think the birth certificate remark was childish, probably had an irresistable urge being excited and all.

Certainly didn't sound "stilted and so robotic"; sounded like a human being to me. And it did make me smile.

 o
RE: Romney is a Birther

patriciae, I agree there are people that do not know. It happens because of their environment, association, and social skills. I have heard people use foul language as if they are saying good morning in public and do not understand why people would be offended. It is what they know.

You can only go as far as you have been and are familiar where you have been.

 o
RE: Romney is a Birther

I didn't say "thought", I said "think"! All I know about this joke is what I read in the original post. I didn't bother with the link since it's just more "faux outrage" from the left.

Much of what we say and do on an internet forum says a lot about each of us, Lily. You speak loud and clear!

 o
RE: Romney is a Birther

And so do you House...in spades.

 o
RE: Romney is a Birther

I didn't bother with the link since it's just more "faux outrage" from the left.

So you are actually admitting that you didn't bother to see what was said, how it was said, where it was said, or even get an idea about the context in which Romney said what he did.

You just decided it was funny, funny because Romney said it and the "left was outraged by what he said.

Yup, you do speak loud and clear House, so loud it is deafening, and what it says is not what you think.

There was nothing funny about it, and the outrage is not "faux outrage" as you word it.

Actually it was pretty darn stupid of Romney to say, even if he actually believes this garbage and denies it.

He should be setting himself up for his "coronation" at the GOP convention next week; attempting to get his points across, what he is all about, trying to get the people to see that he really is a nice guy, etc.

Instead his ignorance and stupidity fell out of his mouth and he did his "normal self" and went off script and oops now he has to deflect his own stupidity and another round of "foot in mouth" disease.

He just knocked himself off the pedestal again and he keeps doing it and doing it and doing it and those of you that support this idiot for President, can't seem to get it that you have a total train wreck for a candidate, you keep finding excuses for every stupid, dumb thing he does, every stupid thing he refuses to do or deal with and it's all about, "don't care who the candidate is, as long as it isn't Obama. Got to get Obama out of the White House at all costs, doesn't matter what damage it may or may not do to the people or the country."

What a pathetic sick attitude to have, live with, support and be part of.

Yes, House, you and your pals on HT speak loud and clear and it's really sad to see and hear.

 o
RE: Romney is a Birther

Littleone...watch your language. You called Romney an idiot. You have offended House and Elvis ...lol. They think nothing of denigrating Obama and have been doing it for years. Romney was pathetic today...stilted and overly excited as he gets..gasping and speaking very quickly. But I'm sure you know since you have seen him many more times than we who don't live in Massachusetts. You nailed him and you're right. But it does not matter one iota to the Right. They would vote for Bachmann , Palin , Newt or Cain JUST to get Obama out.

 o
RE: Romney is a Birther

Romney is a desperate POS as Lilly stated, and for that matter so is George W Bush, Paul Ryan, Mitch McConnell, Karl Rove , Ann Coulter, Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity and OReilly.

And for those who want to attack llily personally for saying that, you are violating the forum rules here.
We can mock any political or public figure and even call them names but it is not permitted to personally attack a poster here like making the outrageous suggestion that they lack character.

Brushworks:

Would you endorse Bill V for saying that Obama is a peckerhead or maybe the antiChrist ?

You are talking about Romney, right? For a minute I thought you went of on a tangent about Obama or Biden.

it's really sad to see and hear

Shall we call this faux sorrow? Because I don't think those of you filled with so much hate had room for any other emotions.

Just watched the clip; doesn't change my opinion.

 o
RE: Romney is a Birther

Of course it doesn't, House

Thanks Heri, and I second that list of names you made.

 o
RE: Romney is a Birther

I appreciate your comedy routine, Heri, but I am still fighting this chest cold and when I laugh I go into a coughing fit! I'll probably be up all night now!

 o
RE: Romney is a Birther

probably had an irresistable urge being excited and all.

So that's it? He can't control his urges? That's not a good characteristic for a CIC.

Look at what happened the last time he got excited, when he went abroad and spoke from the cuff. Hardly a success. He didn't win many fans then and it seems once again people are talking about his latest misspeak rather then his campaign. Not everyone finds humor based on malicious lies funny.

He continues to shoot himself in the foot and hasn't picked up the loads of new fans they expected so he better learn to control his urges soon. So far he hasn't shown that capability.

(waiting for the snark about Clinton's urges)

 o
RE: Romney is a Birther

Lily that was a good one. Idiot is about the best I can do and be polite about him.

Remember, he doesn't think much of me either and made that clear 4 years ago as he campaigned for President and made the state, he was so proud to be
Governor of, and the people he was so proud to serve, the butt of his jokes.

He is one sick puppy, maybe someone should put him in a cage and tie him to the roof of a car and drive around with him. See how much he likes it, all in good fun of course.

House you can give it a rest now, your sarcastic comments are really not necessary. We all know what you think of Romney and what you think of Obama.

Funny thing is, I can talk from experience living under his "rule" as governor, and tell the truth about how horrible it was, how much of a liar he is, a flip flop idiot and no what I'm talking about.

You, on the other hand, can only spout out the rhetoric of the far right, of the GOP talking points, and fall for all of that and believe that you will be better off with the GOP idiot and his side kick in the White House.

You believe what a candidate tells you, one with a proven tract record of lies, deception, twisted truths, none of which includes off shore bank accounts, refusing to show his past tax returns, shoots himself in the mouth every time he opens it and has about as much brains as my dead cat does.

Ah but, the truth is he isn't Obama, you know that kenyan, foreigner, not born in this country, illegal president. The one that is a facist, marxist, communist, Muslim, with a funny foreign name that sounds like muslim terrorists and to top all of it off, He's got a funny skin color and funny hair and doesn't look like the rest of us, nor does his wife and kids.

Yup, we, on the left, get if full well. All of it house, every last little bit of it.

Filled with hate, we are? I don't think so. On the other hand, that could be the perfect definition for the GOP, full of hate, bigoted, paranoid crew that is convinced there is some kind of war on religion, war on Christianity and all kinds of other paranoid ideas.
And of course, they want to take us all back to the 50's, keep women in their place, control and manipulate them, not let them make any decisions for themselves.

And their economic policies. Been there, done that and it's proven that none of them work. no such think as successful trickle down economics, supply side garbage. doesn't work, never did, never will. but be sure to elect the guy who is going to do it all over again and create more disasters that we already have.

So glad you finally actually watched the link. Wouldn't expect it to change your opinion, come to think of it, you wouldn't admit to us if it did. You would just continue to spout the talking points of the GOP.

The talking points of the GOP get so tiresome. Nov can't come soon enough, get this absurdity with the GOP over and done with, so we can get something accomplished in Washington.

Desperation does not win elections and Romney sunk his boat a long, long time ago.

What will you be saying and doing in Nov. after the election and it's 4 more years with Obama?

 o
RE: Romney is a Birther

Not defending it just supporting it! I'm someone who uses foul language as if he is saying good morning (I bet there was surprise there).
I find no language foul as much as I find the most polite scorn deceitful & lacking character.
There are cultures where the most horrible insults can be conveyed with the simplest of... Bless your HEART.
I'll take Sean O'Casey, Brendan Behan or Lenny Bruce over a William Buckley any day. Even poor Buckley showed his patrician veneer was just that when confronted with a a Gore Vidal.

 o

Elvis, why would you state Romney's "birther" remark to be childish when you, youself have remarked here in H.T. that YOU held doubts regarding the authenticity regarding all the President's birth certificate showings?

How odd.

"Elvis, why would you state Romney's "birther" remark to be childish when you, youself have remarked here in H.T. that YOU held doubts regarding the authenticity regarding all the President's birth certificate showings?
How odd."

"Odd"? Odd choice of words--didn't you really mean "at odds"? Say it "in spades", as lily would say. Nice compliment to House, by the way--lily. Nothing wrong with speaking up; that's what we're here for.

Back to Romney's childish remark. I do think it was an irresistable moment for him. My point in saying that it was a childish thing to do is that is proves he's human. The tiresome refrain about his "robotic" or otherwise "stiff" demeanor is obviously not true. Was that remark stiff or robotic? No. That's all. Don't look for a deeper meaning. I'm not stupid but I do like to keep things as simple as possible when I can.

I think that he doesn't talk to down to people in the generally conscending way that the president does, and some take that as an opportunity to make Romney out to be a snob. I think he just has higher expectations of people in general than the president does. Maybe that's not good politics, but it's nice that he expects people to understand him, rather than assuming we're simpletons who will believe he is "one of the regular folks" by talking down to the audience.

 o
RE: Romney is a Birther

No. It's proves he's childish.

Spoken in spades. lily is a wonder, this is coming in so handy. Could be the phrase of the day.

So House, don't tell me you found it funny just because he was joking; that's no excuse, surely. Could it be that humor is subjective? Like the pundits out there on the airwaves--I'll bet there's a pretty big gap between people who find this or that particular one funny. Bill Maher for instance. To me, he's not funny. Human nature; big deal.

"I am still waiting for an explanation as to why his comment struck you as funny houseful."

So, missy, you'd just better explain yourself. Not.

 o
RE: Romney is a Birther

;-)

I don't find Bill Maher funny either.

You're right; humor is subjective. But, I think my explanation is more satisfactory to lefties. It helps justify their hate.

 o
RE: Romney is a Birther

"My point in saying that it was a childish thing to do is that is proves he's human."

What an odd thing to have to prove. I do not watch television, so have not been able to assess Romney's act, but Elvis' comment proves what everyone here is saying.
Romney is robotic, stiff, dislikable and basically puts people off. Thanks Elvis. You clarified it for me.

 o
RE: Romney is a Birther

..ahhh.. Elvis, spades is a card game unless your racist mind is seeing some other meaning??

Proving one is human is a very odd thing to have to do. If Romney is trying it, he's failing miserably. He's an unlikable man which is why he has been running for president and failing forever. Remember John McCain wouldn't even consider him for Veep in 2008, and instead picked a more qualified person, Sarah Palin.....

"..ahhh.. Elvis, spades is a card game unless your racist mind is seeing some other meaning?? "

You just said I have a racist mind. You want to back that up? Start with demonstrating that you have a firm grasp of the true definition of the word "racist". Clue: derived from "racism".

While you're at it, look into the meaning of the phrase "in spades" used in everyday context. In all fairness to you, lily, I did just that when you first posted it, to be sure I understood your meaning correctly.

I'm grateful you don't presume to be like-minded with the likes of me. How embarrassing it would be to be in a group of people that you are identified with and that you so often speak for.

 o
RE: Romney is a Birther

Like birthers, for example?

 o
RE: Romney is a Birther

I guess those that believe Romney is hiding something on his taxes can be called "Taxers." Very apropos in more ways than one!

 o
RE: Romney is a Birther

So, nina,

What does "birther" mean to you?

Urban Dictionary says: "A natural-born citizen who, by coincidence, happens to be a natural-born racist, natural-born moron, and a natural-born a__hole."

Not nice.

Elsewhere, Merriam Webster, etc. says: "opponents of President Obama who claim he is not a natural born citizen (born in the USA."

Not so bad.

_____________

If it's the former definition, yes, that would be embarrassing. If the latter, not.

 o
RE: Romney is a Birther

Gotta love the Urban Dictionary. They got it right.

 o
RE: Romney is a Birther

So does that mean your not allowed to call people on here "birthers" anymore. Because essentially your calling them morons and a**holes. And, by golly, that's against the forum rules!

 o
RE: Romney is a Birther

How is it not embarrassing to believe such crap, elvis? If you don't believe the birth certificate, isn't the birth notice in the Hawaiian newspaper proof enough? Or is it an inconvenience to your verkochte theory and therefore you chose to ignore it.

 o
RE: Romney is a Birther

Houseful. I just copied and stored your statement

"You're right; humor is subjective. But, I think my explanation is more satisfactory to lefties. It helps justify their hate."

for the next time you claim that only 'lefties' sling mud around. I would really appreciate a reason now as to why you think my question in any way supported hate. You apparently think that bigotry and racism are subject for humor and my failure to see this as humor makes ME full of hate? I honestly wanted to know why you or anyone else would find Romeny's lame(my word) comment funny. I thought it ill advised and sophomoric. I am sure he doesn't see the inherent ugly intent of the whole Birther movement that he added to with this idiotic quip. I dont pretend to understand why he is so oblivious and obtuse. Maybe you do so since we are here on Hot Topics and you think his comment is as funny as he seemed to think it was I was and am still asking why you thought it was funny.

 o
RE: Romney is a Birther

Elvis and House are very funny.

There is no doubt the Romney comment was meant as a joke. But a joke for his tools. I do not think he is a bigot or racist but he knows his base is so he made the joke to and for that base. It is the same thing as offering a kid candy to get them in the car to use them. That is what he did he used the weak minds that he knows is the base. A fool is a tool.

I was not upset because I knew what he was doing. It only works on the ones he wants and needs to use. He is aware he has 0% backing of African American, Latinos, Women, (those with a brain), educated males. It is the low income, uneducated, low on the social skills public that the joke was intended to please and please it did. So his mission was accomplished.

He has been running for President for 8 years. He tried to be the next VP but Palin took that position.

Fast forward now he has been brought to his, obvious very last chance. He envisioned a walk in the park. His party was laying the ground, fight every bill that remotely could help the American public, voter ID laws, make it hard to vote by taking away voting days. Finally he thinks everything is in place he will get his wish. and......

He opened his big mouth. His Presidential photo opportunity Foreign travel was a disaster, his VP pick is a forceable rape abortion supporter, and low and behold Mother Nature now wants to smack him off the face of the earth. With all the prep work before and during his party has done he still cannot get ahead of the President.

He had to be desperate to come with a birther joke for the last tools he felt he can control. So suck on that candy enjoy the sweetness. I am laughing too.

Months ago I was worried that the President might lose but the way the stumbling blocks are stacking I am thinking nope I do not have to worry. The more Birther jokes he tells I know he sees the lid closing down. When you are winning and know you are winning you do not have to eat dirt.

 o
RE: Romney is a Birther

FYI, Patriciae, I have never claimed that only lefties sling mud. You probably have me confused with some other racist, bigot, or shall I say, "conservative" for short.

 o
RE: Romney is a Birther

Today I finally heard the audo clip of Romney's comment regarding his birth certificate.

More disturbing than the ill-advised quip was the enthusiastic reception from the audience - clapping, whoops, and laughter.

Nudge, nudge, and wink, wink -- Romney knows the GOP base.

And that explains the influx of Romney apologists excusing his actions.

 o
RE: Romney is a Birther

Well the upside of his asinine comment is that he surely can't accuse the Obama campaign of low balling ...at least not for a day or so.

 o
RE: Romney is a Birther

OK-you have no explanation-never mind. For me hope springs eternal. I just keeep looking for reasons.

Marquest-I agree that he intended his statement as a joke-it has to speak to his inner self monitor that he apparently did not understand the ugliness of what he was saying in his 'little joke' It is the excuse of all people who do this sort of thing-to denigrate, to make fun ha ha. He is a contender for the presidency. I thought it interesting that Elvis and houseful both compared him to Bill Maher who is a comedian, who is not running for president of the United States. I thought we liked to set the bar a little higher for the people who are? We expect them to avoid sounding like racist bigots? But maybe I am out of step with the America of today. John McCain's finest moment in the last election was that he did not play along with birther nonsense.

"How is it not embarrassing to believe such crap, elvis? If you don't believe the birth certificate, isn't the birth notice in the Hawaiian newspaper proof enough? Or is it an inconvenience to your verkochte theory and therefore you chose to ignore it."

jersey, it really doesn't matter to you what I believe, so don't fret about me and my potential embarrassment. Thanks for your concern. What would be embarrassing for the whole country would be if the birthers were right. So I hope that they are not.

The "verkochte" theory is not mine, sorry. Nasty word, means FUBAR for you unenlightened ones who don't speak a word of Yiddish here and there. lily would like this word.

"There is no doubt the Romney comment was meant as a joke. I do not think he is a bigot or racist but..."

We agree!

"he knows his base is so he made the joke to and for that base. It is the same thing as offering a kid candy to get them in the car to use them."

What? Now you're saying he is a pedophile? "It is the same thing as offering a kid candy to get them in the car to use them"?

"A fool is a tool."

Well, move over lily. Your alter ego is giving you a run for your money.

1 Corinthians 13:11
When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put childish ways behind me.

You are riding in that back seat of that car laughing. Keep sucking on your candy. Talk, thought, reasoned..... Childish fools are tools.

RE: Romney is a Birther

Elvis the only one who continues to show they are unenlightened is you.

Not only are you still trying to spew this crap about the birth certificate but you aren't even capable of correctly defining the word "verkochte" without distorting it.

It simply means nasty, dirty, broken, screwed up, but nothing even close to FUBAR. Please stop trying to pretend to educate people on things you know absolutely nothing about.

 o
RE: Romney is a Birther

...hope springs eternal.

Is this Obama's now slogan?

 o
RE: Romney is a Birther

I guess those that believe Romney is hiding something on his taxes can be called "Taxers." Very apropos in more ways than one!

He has lied before about his residence when he refused to release his taxes. Truth is not his friend.

...hope springs eternal.

Is this Obama's now slogan?

I take that over

.....Fool Tool forever

"Elvis the only one who continues to show they are unenlightened is you."

Yer killing me.

"Not only are you still trying to spew this crap about the birth certificate..."

"trying to spew this crap:" Vile.

"...aren't even capable of correctly defining the word "verkochte" without distorting it." Well, excuuuuuse me. English is my first language; I had to rely on the internet for the meaning.

It simply means nasty, dirty, broken, screwed up, but nothing even close to FUBAR." Actually FUBAR is pretty close, if you like to use that kind of language, which I obviously don't.

"Please stop trying to pretend to educate people on things you know absolutely nothing about."

You're right about this one. "verkochte" is all yours.

 o
RE: Romney is a Birther

Actually FUBAR is pretty close, if you like to use that kind of language, which I obviously don't.

But you did and it isn't close at all. I hardly think that generations of grandmothers used the word referencing FUBAR like you did.

had to rely on the internet for the meaning.

And you still couldn't get it right. It wasn't difficult to find the correct information on a number of sites on page 1 of Google but I couldn't find it defined as FUBAR anywhere. Yet you did?

It's not mine Elvis. I don't own the word. I just found it ironic, but not surprising, that you were trying to be condescending and pretend to educate people yet you weren't even capable of researching the word properly and providing the correct definition even when it was staring you in the face. Hardly gives you credibility to teach anyone anything.

Vile is continuing to post misinformation as fact and continuing to perpetuate a lie that has been debunked by many, not the word spew.

 o
RE: Romney is a Birther

Okay, epi. You're right, of course; what was I thinking.

 o
RE: Romney is a Birther

...hope springs eternal.
Is this Obama's now slogan
No houseful-I dont write for the Obama campaign-I am the one eternally hoping to find reason behind what people do and say.

I have been thinking about this while I cooked dinnner etc...why do people laugh at this sort of thing-like Polack jokes or when some one falls and hurts themselves and whole rooms of people laugh-but not whole rooms because I was never laughing and could not understand what people seemed to find fun in pain and discomfort-so I lack a sense of humor? Or do I lack the need to belittle others? So ask yourself why Romneys very lame joke was funny to you when so many people thought it tasteless, tacky, contemptible , painful, racist, vulgar, pandering, bigoted, despicable, inappropriate, well I could go on and on. You thought it was funny but are not capable of explaining why. It ought to give you pause.

TAXERS! Yes!~

Ironic that some that have accused Romney of being a "tax dodger" can't prove it, months after the accusation.

But hey, what are facts if you can get a lie to stick, eh?

Ironic, also, that so many that think Romney doesn't pay enough are people that do not pay a THIN DIME in federal income tax in this country.

They have enough time to complain that they "think" that other people who pay their legal tax bill of millions or hundreds of thousands in federal income taxes year are not paying enough, yet the same people cannot manage to find the time to improve their own lives where they could be earning enough to do their fair share and actually contribute to the federal coffers.

Now THAT is something I'll never understand.

Understand this, I've paid federal income taxes for 50 years but I'd still like to know if a candidate for president has a clean record or not, esp one that refuses to live up to his own father's standards.

 o
RE: Romney is a Birther

Demi, I don't see many who are outwardly accusing him of dodging taxes but I do see many who feel he is being less than candid about his finances creating many questions. His "blind" trust is suspect as are his offshore investments as well as his employment at Bain. And many want to know how his IRA grew to $100 mil if he was limited to $30k max during his time at Bain. Without additional tax returns many experts are unable to put all the pieces together. So the jury is still out.

He can easily put this to rest by making more of his tax returns available.

Apparently today's story is he is claiming that it is because he doesn't want people to see how much he tithes.

IMO he is his own worst enemy and is creating his own problems. Disclosure goes to the heart of his truthfulness. More transparency would go a long way in assuring people he has a high moral character, something that one would expect of a future President.

 o
RE: Romney is a Birther

Exactly vgkg...We've paid federal income taxes too for almost a half a century, and it totally pisses me off that a gazillionire pays a lower percentage than we do...and that's the returns he shows. Why the rest are hidden means he paid less or none.

I love it that Elvis is trying to educate us on word meanings. When I said 'in spades' she was accusing ME of being racist. Me who not only voted for Obama ,but worked for him in the 2008 PA primary and general election and will start working again next month. Spades mean without question and beyond doubt, but in her walk of life apparently it means something sinister.

..Rooney's little joke was totally intentional, meant to solidify the teabagger element of the party who don't quite trust him. They didn't politely laugh, they hooted and yelled. "Yeah, you're one of us." Little do they know he disdains them

 o
RE: Romney is a Birther

No, Patricia, I don't have an explanation. It's not like I laughed hysterically. It gave me chuckle; that's it. It certainly doesn't make me a sadist.

Or do I lack the need to belittle others?
It ought to give you pause.

Believe me, Patricia, IT DOES!

 o
RE: Romney is a Birther

"in spades" is an expression that has it's origins in the game of Bridge. Spades is the strongest of the suits and will win the bid over any other suit.

 o
RE: Romney is a Birther

No Elvis. I didn't mean "at odds."

I meant exactly what I said.

Why are you one of those who doesn't believe in the authenticity of the publically displayed birth certificate of the President of the United States?

"Why are you one of those who doesn't believe..."

You said that. Skeptical would be more accurate. One of those things I'm cynical about. I personally don't feel comfortable putting my faith in this president. I do not trust him enough.

You asked.

 o
RE: Romney is a Birther

For what reasons are you skeptical and/or cynical regarding the authenticity/accuracy/truthfulness of the President of the United State's publically displayed birth certificate?

 o
RE: Romney is a Birther

mylab...don't expect a reasonable answer any time soon.

It appears that elvis is a birther too. Which means to me that everything you say from now on will be taken with a grain of salt or flat-out discounted.

If you missed Morning Joe.........This is hometown PA Chris Mathews thoughts on the Birth Certificate issue.

Here is a link that might be useful: Chris Mathews

I saw that , Marquest. Way to go hometown PA Chris Matthews. He really put it to the RNC guy who is a dunce like the last one was.

 o
RE: Romney is a Birther

Elvis also say that President Obama "allegedly" gave the order to take out Bin Laden. The fact that General McRaven, commander of the Navy Seals, says differently is inconsequential. Clearly he is in on it...whatever "it " is.

 o
RE: Romney is a Birther

Jodi, in another thread I mentioned that I watched Joe Scarborough in order to get a more reasonable GOP point of view and ended up agreeing with him on many points - after I work through the tangents of silly and vain buffoonery he loves to start on some political points. But he makes some good points. I didn't make myself clear in that post that he is NOT (god forbid) on Faux Fox, he is on MSNBC Joe In the Morning, which I usually DVR since I'm busy in the mornings exercising, gardening, caring of the dogs, getting myself ready for the day. I usually only watch the first hour, sometimes if I'm not scheduled for other things I'm involved in and will be at home all day, I will listen to the whole thing, but not often.

I consider the Romney 'birth certificate' nonsense not really race bating but clearly, imo, courting the votes of those people (like a couple right her in H.T.) who love that birth certificate question stuff....courting the votes of those who just love that sort of stuff - tea bag creatures, all the rest of that silly, vocal group of conservative voters.

I really think that if Joe Scarborough and Jeb Bush and those GOPs like them would begin to very publically just laugh SCORNFULLY and vocally announce them to be silly people who need to find other ways of making a living,

all this embarrassing "courting to the lowest common denominator and shilling for the "control the birth control!" issue, the "not really rape" stuff - all the issues that have surrounded the abortion issue (invasive "lookie, see!" stuff up the vagina) ....."

if those serious and honorable, new century GOP politicians would simply and publically shun them as questionably odd people who don't belong working in politics or certainly in power of shaping public policy - they would begin to fade away.

But this would also require effort from the same sort of conservative voter and that is where I fear all would fall apart. They don't seem to object to such embarrassing public shilling for votes if it means ousting Obama. They don't seem to realize that what they remain silent on sticks to them. Silence equals acquiescence, it really doesn't matter if they disagree with that natural outcome, it's what happens. Sticks like glue.

Lack of honor in what conservative voters are willing to put out there in order to remove Obama by any means necessary. There is no honor with those conservative voters.

They reasonable, responsible GOP conservatives AND the same sort of voters need to begin to publically shun these idiots who will stoop to such levels.

Of course that would eliminate the R@R team as winners (should have eliminated even the possibility of them), but it's too late for that response now if they intend to win, which they very well might. They are stuck with that team.

Coulda had Huntsman. Coulda, woulda, shoulda!

And I suspect I will be saying that phrase even if our next President is President R@R team - within a year's time especially if they haven't completely fixed the economy and the job situation.

(That's giving them 4 more months than conservatives gave Obama, I'm feeling generous today...but remember, no excuses!)

You get what you remain silent about/ignore. You are as those who represent your conservative party when you are willing to remain silent about what they are willing to say.

Coulda had Huntsman.

Coulda, woulda, shoulda!

Would have had the election in the bag already. With honor.
