Dr. Barbara Bellar explains Obamacare

Posted by nikoleta (My Page) on

Speaking as a physician, attorney, professor and Army Major, Dr. Barbara Bellar tells Americans what most of us already knew about Obamacare. The joke's on us!!!

Dr. Bellar: "So let me get this straight...this is a long sentence. We are going to be gifted with a health care plan that we are forced to purchase, and fined if we dont, which reportedly covers 10 million more people without adding a single new doctor, but provides for 16,000 new IRS agents, written by a committee whose chairman doesnt understand it, passed by Congress, that didnt read it, but exempted themselves from it, and signed by a president who smokes, with funding administered by a treasury chief who didnt pay his taxes, for which we will be taxed for four years before any benefits take effect, by a government which has bankrupted Social Security and Medicare, all to be overseen by a surgeon general who is obese an financed by a country that is broke. What the blank could possibly go wrong?"

RE: Dr. Barbara Bellar explains Obamacare

I am impressed with the contents of the political speech by a former nun/physician/attorney/professor/Army Major/candidate for Senate in the state of Illinois. She's on the right track to returning to our 1950's healthcare system. Returning to the status quo of 2012 would devastate the economy and put more 10s of millions of Americans outside affordable health care systems. Just revoke Obamacare and give all the needy vouchers to pay for private insurance. Should work out just fine except for those ineligible for insurance coverage for a variety of pre-existing and genetically potential risk factors. No problem.

 o
RE: Dr. Barbara Bellar explains Obamacare

I assume she's a former Major?

Of course, she comes from a system that provides free or low cost health care to all military and their families. Guess she didn't like it.

 o
RE: Dr. Barbara Bellar explains Obamacare

Oh, I'm sure she's still enrolled, its one of the perks of being a vet - do 20 years and you gvt paid health insurance for yourself and family, for life.

Some call it socialism, I call it government interference in the health care market. They should just give all those retired vets a voucher. Because we know how well corporate America cares for the little guy.

 o
RE: Dr. Barbara Bellar explains Obamacare

David, you forgot all her perks as a nun, physician and professor. If she was a practicing atty with membership in bar associations, she also would have enjoyed perks as well. She's sitting pretty for pot-shooting at big guvment programs. She's probably "has hers" and can afford to take the low road.

 o
RE: Dr. Barbara Bellar explains Obamacare

She's just spewing out "the party line" as usual. She must have just been given her all important talking points to support Romney/Ryan crowd, all at the same time that she has the best health care insurance possible and heck, she can afford any and all of it without blinking an eye.

Typical GOP garbage, nothing more, nothing less, all of it minus a huge dose or reality, but drowning in the insanity and lies that they continue to spout out about how the destruction of the country is coming, the health of the people will fall, Obamacare =evil. status quo = the best health care the world has to offer.

And guess who makes out like a bandit with status quo left in place? It sure ain't the people who need the health care, but those big time health insurance companies will be having a ball and laughing all the way to the bank, while more than half the population dies from lack of health care that would not happen under "Obamacare".

 o
RE: Dr. Barbara Bellar explains Obamacare

From a TeaParty website...
"After high school, Dr. Bellar served as a nun* for four years before completing her residency at University of Illinois."

(*well, not quite - she jumped the wall before taking her final vows.)

I'm thinking one of the perks was the Benedictines picking up the tab on a lot of her medical schooling - pre residency, anyway. I have a few old friends who managed to remain in the religious life - they are superbly educated.

 o
RE: Dr. Barbara Bellar explains Obamacare

Actually, a big part of Obamacare training up new physicians, combined with his student loan thing with repayments at 10% of your disposable income, which means that we can get doctors into underserved areas with poor clientele, and they don't all have to become specialists so they can pay back $200,000 it costs to go to medical school.

RE: Dr. Barbara Bellar explains Obamacare

It's always those who already "have theirs", or have never been incapacitated, that can't imagine why anyone might need help. Vouchers, indeed. Yes, we all know how well the private sector takes care of the little guy... they don't.

 o
RE: Dr. Barbara Bellar explains Obamacare

nikoleta, I assume you have some serious health problems because the last 3 post have been about the evil healthcare.

I can only repeat theConservative philosophy since it seems the only research you believe.

You must take Personal Responsibility for your health and not depend on the tax payers to pay for your health care. You can purchase private insurance and any doctor that sees you have Personal Responsibility will treat you to the extent of your last dollar.

 o
RE: Dr. Barbara Bellar explains Obamacare

Just a tiny little piece in the sludge of Dr. Bellar's "long sentence". President Obama does not smoke any more. She couldn't even get that right or perhaps it just sounded too good and surely her audience wouldn't mind.

 o
RE: Dr. Barbara Bellar explains Obamacare

The one thing I keep asking myself is who is going to pay for all this "free healthcare?"

 o
RE: Dr. Barbara Bellar explains Obamacare

GMG, you might want to ask our neighbors to the north - they've been doing it successfully for many years. Or Germany, or Sweden, or Holland.....

 o
RE: Dr. Barbara Bellar explains Obamacare

I expect the same people who pay for offensive weapons systems to pay for defensive restorative health care.
The same crowd who would spend a couple of trillion over a bogus 911 Connection have major problems paying to save the lives of their fellow citizens a bizarre bit of logic there GG wouldn't you say?

 o
RE: Dr. Barbara Bellar explains Obamacare

The one thing I keep asking myself is who is going to pay for all this "free healthcare?"

Why don't you stop asking yourself and read with a open mind, because yourself does not seem to be very helpful with answers.

5 Dead in Benghazi like a howling pack of hyenas.
Several thousand line up in New Orleans for free health care clinic yawn!
"Overall, researchers said American adults age 64 and younger who lack health insurance have a 40 percent higher risk of death than those who have coverage.

that was from a Harvard study

lot of people die every year because they aren't receiving adequate care or diagnosis. No need to ship our youth anywhere to kill anyone anywhere. To destroy the infra structure of anyplace . No collateral deaths, no no bid contracts to Halliburton so some forum members can retire in comfort & scornful disdain of others.
So lets say 45,000 deaths due to lack of health care was exaggerated by half. 17,000 Dead we'd nuke the eff out of any place responsible for 17,000 dead USIANS & say to hell with paying for it we're PATRIOTS look at our tears & our wrist bracelets, our bumper stickers! I gotta flag on my lawn!
Get on the sane boat!

Successfully????

I'd like to hear what your definition of "successful" is in this context.

From the link that you probably won't read.....

"The British healthcare system may "guarantee" access to care but that doesnt mean patients actually receive it."

Gotta love Google....I got 2,150,000 results (0.38 seconds) to find what a success is.

But wait...there's more......

http://blog.heritage.org/2010/02/09/the-canadian-patients%E2%80%99-remedy-for-health-care-go-to-america/

"Newfoundland Premier Danny Williams is seeking heart surgery in the United States, drawing criticism from "local bloggers and people calling in to the provinces immensely popular open-line radio shows." Yet his actions are hardly unusual for world leaders. Saudi Arabian King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz is known to have his checkups at the prestigious Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn. Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi had heart surgery at the Cleveland Clinic in 2006 . Even middle-class Canadians are utilizing their proximity to the United States to seek treatment here."

Can this be the vaunted heathcare system to which you speak?

RE: Dr. Barbara Bellar explains Obamacare

I would have to hear from many more sources other than this author who obviously has a very specific agenda, based on the book she has written and other articles by her, all having to do with getting rid of Obamacare. England is and has been for a long time struggling with huge and complex economic issues and I would never hold them up as a model for anything, including socialized medicine. I have no doubt that wealthy people from foreign countries would want to avail themselves of the cutting-edge medical facilities the US offers. What does that have to do with the millions and millionss of people in the US who can't afford to see a doctor here to even find out whether they have a life-threatening illness?

 o
RE: Dr. Barbara Bellar explains Obamacare

I see Ingrid decided not to leave us after all. I figured she was just kidding when she said she couldn't stay. This forum is just too much fun for you to give up, isn't it Ingrid? :)

"President Obama does not smoke any more."

Except that here in the US, his embarrassing debate performance has some folks telling him to STOP smoking!

"nikoleta, I assume you have some serious health problems because the last 3 post have been about the evil healthcare."

Liberal "logic." Nik continues to post her opposition to Obamacare. Therefore Nik must be really sick.

In reality, Nik is healthy as a horse. It's Obamacare that may not survive.

 o
RE: Dr. Barbara Bellar explains Obamacare

In reality, Nik is healthy as a horse. It's Obamacare that may not survive.

Yeah, Yeah they said the same thing about Social Security and Medicare. But through the years it was strengthened.

 o
RE: Dr. Barbara Bellar explains Obamacare

for a little history, Dr. Bellar lost by a wide margin when she ran for office 2 yrs ago. Her tea party beliefs didn't serve her well before. Why should I listen to her now?

 o
RE: Dr. Barbara Bellar explains Obamacare

nikoleta, I wasn't kidding when I said I was leaving. However, I hope one is allowed to change one's mind.

As for President Obama's performance, which admittedly was much less than it could have been, in the cold light of day it has widely been considered still superior to Mr. Romney's, in light of the latter's many lies. Frankly, the manic gleam in Romney's eyes and his fixed, never-ending smile were definite minuses to me, although he was much better in his delivery that I expected, apart from the fact that many of his statements were not true.

 o
RE: Dr. Barbara Bellar explains Obamacare

"I wasn't kidding when I said I was leaving."

That's OK. Whatever your reasons, I am glad you thought better of it.

"for a little history, Dr. Bellar lost by a wide margin when she ran for office 2 yrs ago. Her tea party beliefs didn't serve her well before. Why should I listen to her now?"

She lost once by a "wide margin" so why listen again?

Make your own call. I couldn't care less if you listen or not.

 o
RE: Dr. Barbara Bellar explains Obamacare

Jealousy. And rightly so; she's extraordinary. Her detractors would like her just fine if she was a democrat. not white, and if she had "community organizer" (for 3 whole years) on her resume instead of those silly degrees, and military service.

 o
RE: Dr. Barbara Bellar explains Obamacare

she's not extraordinary...she's a career student and job hopper. That's not extraordinary.

 o
RE: Dr. Barbara Bellar explains Obamacare

elvis - who are you channeling?

 o
RE: Dr. Barbara Bellar explains Obamacare

I'd say she has a lot of valuable experience under her belt. "Extraordinary" means just that: extra ordinary; beyond ordinary.

Very weak on the spin there.

 o
RE: Dr. Barbara Bellar explains Obamacare

"she's not extraordinary...she's a career student and job hopper. That's not extraordinary."

LOL! Sounds a lot like "You didn't build that!"

Aside from the fact that one cannot just "hop" into the Army and become a Major, the level of education and credentials Dr. Bellar attained is indeed extraordinary.

I'm with you, elvis. I think there is considerable jealousy here of Dr. Bellar's achievements. Obamacare supporters have no idea how to deal with her "long sentence" other than with personal attacks.

 o
RE: Dr. Barbara Bellar explains Obamacare

Oh yeah, always the "jealousy" thing. Right.

 o
RE: Dr. Barbara Bellar explains Obamacare

Obamacare supporters have no idea how to deal with her "long sentence" other than with personal attacks.

It is not her sentence. It is I have my own intelligence and can read and a god command of politics. Any creditable person that was truly analyzing the Bill would not use "The President smokes". When I am looking for creditable info I read the bill, weigh the benefits for me and mine and third society.

Health Care should not be part of a political I gotcha game. We are talking about people's lives and a lot of those lives are innocent children. That includes your grandchildren and if you do not give a flying crap about your grandchildren it will have an effect of what happens to you.

It is not like we are the only country attempting to provide universal health care. We are the only industrial country that does not have some type of Universal health care.

This was a Republican Bill but when the Obama Administration adopted it suddenly politics decided it was bad and they are trying to spin the stupid that are weak minded enough to believe it is the worst thing to every be uttered out of anybody's mouth.

I find it amazing that we have post of Conservative so upset about drones but to offer your own citizens care that are unable to afford health care some how this is sooooo bad.

You sound very jealous that your party did not have the brains to push a health care bill through. So what if it was rammed down your throat. Bush rammed down a war with the lie of WMD down our throat and we are still paying for that and it will be paid for for a lot of generations to come.

So keep choking on that Health Care Bill swallow a little bite more there is going to be some more stuff rammed down your throat.

The party that does not thinks a woman cannot be raped makes me sick to my stomach. She asked for it and deserved what she got.

 o
RE: Dr. Barbara Bellar explains Obamacare

If you're a medical doctor, you hop into the military at the rank of Major.

/or you thought the surgeons were all privates?

 o
RE: Dr. Barbara Bellar explains Obamacare

Thought doctors hopped in as Captains - but the fly up to Major isn't too far behind.

...................

"that was from a Harvard study" is meant to tell us that we can simply accept the study without questioning it.

...

"....Dr. David Himmelstein, a co-author of the study and an associate professor of medicine at Harvard, said in an interview with Reuters."

Dr. David Himmelstein? The co-founder of Physicans for a National Health Program?

That Dr. David Himmelstein?

"Physicians for a National Health Program is a non-profit research and education organization of 18,000 physicians, medical students and health professionals who support single-payer national health insurance."

...

"that was from a Harvard study"

"The Harvard study, funded by a federal research grant, was published in the online edition of the American Journal of Public Health. It was released by Physicians for a National Health Program, which favors government-backed or "single-payer" health insurance."

That study?

...

Dr. David Himmelstein?

The coauthor of the faulty study with Elizabeth Warren which led to lying headlines like:

Medical bills led to two-thirds of bankruptcies in 2007, study finds

That David Himmelstein?

I'm beginning to have my doubts about this study.

Hay

 o
RE: Dr. Barbara Bellar explains Obamacare

If Hay-ward is against this study, there must be some objective truth to the study.

 o
RE: Dr. Barbara Bellar explains Obamacare

I tried to find an unbiased account or analysis of Barbara Bellar on the internet but found only articles by Republicans and most of them related to her "famous" sentence about Obamacare. If anyone can provide a link about who this woman really is I'd appreciate it. It's difficult to make an informed judgment when the available information seems to be solely from her supporters.

 o
RE: Dr. Barbara Bellar explains Obamacare

Here's something apolitical:

"Dr. Barbara Bellar is a family medicine physician and an addictions medicine specialist at MetroSouth Medical Center. Located in the Blue Island health center, she has an extensive background in medicine, law and bioethics. After high school, Dr. Bellar served as a nun for four years before completing her residency at University of Illinois.
She was also previously a Major in the United States Army for seven years. Dr. Bellar strongly believes in the importance of a healthy spiritual life and incorporates prayer with her patients. Dr. Bellar has her Masters in Bioethics and Health Policy, and currently, she is working towards her Masters in Public Health. Her next goal is a Doctorate in Bio Ethics, which she currently teaches at Benedictine University. Dr. Bellar is also a licensed state and federal attorney. Her many hobbies include motorcycling, golfing, swimming and natural living.

To schedule an appointment with Dr. Bellar, please call her office at 708.489.7760."

7 years ain't gonna do it for the "free" health care, dude.

 o
RE: Dr. Barbara Bellar explains Obamacare

Aw, well then I guess she must get great health insurance somewhere else, because anybody who has had to deal with individual policies over the years, particularly with pre-existing conditions, knows what a relief that Obamacare will bring.

And did you catch how Romney's own campaign had to correct his Bull Sh*t when he lied through his teeth and said in the debate that with his health plan, pre-existing conditions were covered?

Well, no, his campaign came out that same evening and explained that no, pre-conditions aren't covered because he's going to repeal everything and just leave health care up to the states.

 o
RE: Dr. Barbara Bellar explains Obamacare

Yes, I noticed that his campaign has had to correct him on several things that he said ....

 o
RE: Dr. Barbara Bellar explains Obamacare

"Dr. Bellar incorporates prayer with her patients"??? Does she at least inquire first whether her patient is Christian and/or wants to pray? Or is it perchance mandatory to be Christian to be treated by her? I've been to many different doctors, as most of us have, and I'm sure a large percentage were Christian, but somehow they never seemed to think it appropriate to advise me of that fact or to incorporate prayer into our appointments. The clinical atmosphere and bright lighting to me somehow don't seem to have the right ambiance....
