| The issue that's alarming, or should be, but never seems to gain any momentum or garner much in the way of outrage or action... by the manufacturer, the process, or many voters...

Well, that is disheartening. In my voting district, there is only vote-by-mail and I am beginning to worry because I still haven't received the mail-in ballot. In past elections I received those many weeks before election day.

Marshall, I'd check right away. What if you got purged. Accidently, of course. As for the OP. Then there is sleeper software.

Diebold machines are an on purpose waiting to happen. P-A-P-E-R T-R-A-I-L-S !!!

I got my mail in ballot 10 days ago. I'm still undecided, of course, what with Obama being a Socialist Plutocrat and Romney a Robber Baron Plutocrat. What to do, what to do........

It would seem, David, that your best option is apathy... simply don't vote. Leave it up to those who cheat, lie, and steal their spots in America's compromised elections. ;-) But seriously... the lack of media play on this issue, even though this has been common knowledge since 2004, is beyond appalling. And the simple fix for this security issue exists. It has existed for a while, now. It was openly offered to the manufacturers of these machines. Even the FBI states this is a matter of national security that needs to be taken care of immediately... the election process of any nation should be above reproach. But even our agencies of authority are being ignored by a manufacturer who's ego and influence won't allow an admission of any failure or mistake. To me, this is incredibly troubling. This takes away from the great American dream, and makes this country no better than others of known corruption and dishonesty, the masses blinded by the propaganda machine of money and power...

There is no such thing as hack proof. You would be amazed at the disruptions that can be caused by a disaffected teenager or even an inactive telephone bank. There are so many ways to hack a computer the only defense is to go back to paper ballots and #2 pencils.Which of course is also not foolproof. There are probably hundreds of millions of people who are capable of hacking a computer and no one knows how many actually do hacking for nefarious purposes. Your only protection in voting is to be aware and ask for a machine that gives you a paper receipt and check it before you leave the booth. The easiest vote to hack is voting the straight party ticket with a single stroke. It is more difficult to program a hack for every line item. Hardware hacks are more difficult to pull off but still can happen. There have already been complaints by some early voters that the machine changed their Romney vote to an Obama vote. There may well be complaints of the opposite but this is the only one I have heard so far.

Our county was ahead of the curve re voting machinery, and for the past 15 years we've been using two-sided paper ballots that are scanned - right in front of you - into a machine that will eject the ballot if there is something wrong so you, the voter, can correct it. And when we have a recount, its pretty easy to do. This past primary saw a recount with the incompetent DA losing to the usurper by 17 votes, the recount came out exactly as the initial count, and the incompetent DA was out some $3,000 bucks.

Meanwhile, adding to it, Sproul is still on the Republicans' payroll and Scytl stands ready to count the votes. Marshall, you get your ballot yet?

"But seriously... the lack of media play on this issue, even though this has been common knowledge since 2004, is beyond appalling" Lack of media play? Appalling? If one googles "hack voting machine" they will find loads of articles by every common name media company out there. Sleepless is right. There is no such thing as hack proof.
