Cell Phone Numbers Going Public?

Is this for real? One of my nieces sent me this :

---------- Forwarded Message ----------

---:

REMEMBER: Cell Phone Numbers Go Public today

REMINDER.... all cell phone numbers are being released to telemarketing companies tomorrow and you will start to receive sale calls.

.... YOU WILL BE CHARGED FOR THESE CALLS

To prevent this, call the following number from your cell phone: 888-382-1222. It is the National DO NOT CALL list. It will only take a minute of your time. It blocks your number for five (5) years. You must call from the cell phone number you want to have blocked. You cannot call from a different phone number.

HELP OTHERS BY PASSING THIS ON TO ALL YOUR FRIENDS. It takes about 20 seconds.

Urban Legends and snopes both have this email on their sites and say it is false.

Here is a link that might be useful: snopes on this email

It's always a good idea to check things like this out on Snopes before forwarding them on or posting them on a public forum.

It is NOT true.

Thanks, my niece is always sending me krap like this....which reminds me, I gotta scare her into thinking I'm converting to Islam now. Yes, she drinks James flavored kool-aid, maybe not as strong but she's 40 YO and a staunch Catholic....I just shake my head with affectionate shame.
