| That looks like a regular H. carnosa to me. It's possible that it's H. pubicalyx, but I doubt it. You'll really have to wait till it blooms to know for sure. If it was a pubicalyx, the most probably one would be 'Pink Silver' (also called 'Silver Pink' or 'Splash')...on the other varieties (like 'Red Buttons' and 'Royal Hawaiian Purple'), new leaves are purple-ish. | Thanks for the info. I don't claim to be any kind of expert. I've barely been researching them for several months now. I've asked another source and we're pretty sure that it is not a regular H. carnosa. It's leaves don't match any of the carnosa's that I've seen. Having said that, it does not have any red or purple new growth. They come out green.... But I also don't think that it is the Pink Silver; it just differs in so many ways. So, it's a mystery until she blooms for me ! |

| No need to be an expert to ID :) I agree, you'll have to wait for blooms. Here's a pic of my pubicalyx, and then a pic of one of my carnosa's (not your "typical" carnosa either, but with so many clones out there, they all look different). If it happens to be pubicalyx, which it *could* be, it's not 'Royal Hawaiian' or 'Red Buttons' (which also has purple blooms) if the new leaves aren't purple-ish. The seller could have meant 'Pink Silver' when he said "purple blooms", because the blooms are a dark pink, almost purple. Regardless of what you have, it's a gorgeous hoya! They can look so similar, huh?! Good luck on getting blooms.. Gabi |

| Thanks ! I love the pics. You're right ; definitely not the "Red Buttons or Royal Hawaiian Purple". I have to say, it's looks most similar to your Pink Silver. Or Silver Pink, whichever one it is.... Thanks so much for the comparisons. That REALLY helps a lot. Hey, how do you get your pics right on the page, instead of only a link ? |
|
| No problem :) Pictures speak 1,000 words! To get pictures on the page, this is what I do: I use an online album (Photobucket.com), which is free, and I upload my pictures to the album. Then I copy the 3rd line under the picture that says "HTML Code", and I paste it onto my post. You can copy and paste just one picture code, or a whole bunch of picture codes onto one post. When you preview the post (before you "submit" it), you'll then see the picture/s. That's it! If you'd like to look at my hoya album on Photobucket, just click on the link below. Gabi |

| Paula, I think it's 'Pink Silver' too (though I prefer to call mine 'Splash' because the clone I have is VERY heavily speckled...) Here's mine: And the flowers are what I'd describe as burgandy and very powerfully scented at night... It's one of my favorites! Denise in Omaha |
