Black tip on cuttings?

I had ordered some hoyas late last summer/early fall. One of them, not sure of the variety as I'm not at home to check, was a longer cutting that broke in two during transit. The bottom half had two nodes with leaves and the upper portion had two nodes but no leaves. I planted it anyway hoping it might do something. Well it rooted and has grown a leaf, but now the top of the cutting is beginning to blacken and shrivel. Is the cutting dying? or should I just trim off the blackened stuff?

The cuttings are in a brightly lit room that gets morning and early afternoon sunlight. However, they are not directly in front of the window as I had no room for them there. I have them in 2 in pots for rooting, perhaps this is too small? Any advice is welcome. Thanks!
