Does anyone besides me still kill hoyas?

The way I see it, their only goal is to live, my only goal is not to kill them...and still...we can not meet in the middle. Is it just me or does everyone still manage to kill their hoyas from time to time? There are even certain species like Picta, serpens, and siare that I won't even buy because I know for them it is a death sentence!

Don't feel bad, Johanna. We all have species that don't do well under our care. I can't grow picta and serpens, either, and curtisii is another one. After years of not growing bella, I got one of the variegated forms this last summer and it hasn't put on an iota of growth (though at least it hasn't died!) But yes, there are species that are difficult or impossible to grow well (for some of us, anyway.) Denise in Omaha

Welcome back Johanna, long time no see. No, you are def. not the only one that's killed a hoya or two. I have issues with Bella and Serpens also, they don't like me and my FL weather. Mine keeps shrinking, soon it will just turn to dust and disappear ;o). I usually will give a hoya I really like a couple of tries, then that's it. Too many others out there to pick from. I agree with Denise, there's just some hoyas that don't do well in our growing conditions.

I killed bella and my tiny little picta looks pretty sad. I have found some species more difficult to grow but the main problem is die back on new growth and the occasional yellow leaf on a few. I guess these types of things are to be expected when we grow such a variety of Hoyas from different habitats, you just can't grow them all well. Mike

I'll hop in here. . . I have only managed to kill two so far (I think they are dead, I haven't given up on them totaly) those two are nummularioides and dasyantha. The bad thing about the later is, it was waaaaaaaaay too much money to take it lightly. . . Oh well, like Pug said, too many othrs out there that I know I can grow and since space becomes an issue, I'll save my space for the ones I CAN grow. . .
