I use MSU fertilizer plus a bloom booster type every so often but that is because these are what I use for my orchids and the Gesneriads really bloom best with a bloom booster.
I can tell you one thing, no fertilizer will leave you with lots of leaves and few blooms. Be sure to flush the pots every so often by watering well and then watering again an hour or so after with the full volume of the pot. Too much fertilizer build up is very hard on plants roots.

You can probably use any good fertilizer but many people like Peter's, Dyna-Gro, and MSU.

For the past year I have used Miracle Grow products but I saw tremendous growth in my hoyas. Previously I would never have dreamed to use their products but I don't use anything else now.

I too have to give a shout out to the Miracle Grow Products. I have spent $$$ on other fertilizers such as VF-11, MSU, etc...only to find that Miracle Grow truly is the best! Of course, depending on the species I also throw in a bit of lime and always triple phosphate in the spring.

Basically a 3:1:2 N-P-K ratio is best for virtually all plants (flowering or not), high phosphorus "bloom booster" formulas should be avoided, and frequent low doses are best. The article explains it all in much more detail.

I use Dyna-Gro Foliage Pro 9-3-6. The MSU formula mentioned is another good one. And Miracle-Gro also makes a 24-8-16 that would be quite good.

Great advice everyone, thanks a lot! My little hoya is still trucking along, although there are few, if any, signs of new growth. I'll pick up some fertilizer soon and see if that helps.

Like Penfold, I use Foliage Pro 9-3-6 with outstanding results.
