one long cutting or several shorter ones?

When you get a cutting to root, do you generally cut it into several shorter ones with at least 2-3 nodes each, in order to fill out the pot faster, or do you keep it long so that it is stronger?

I did the former when I was rooting mine in the fall, but now I wonder for the next time...

Generally, how does a cutting turn into a bushy full plant? Only some hoyas naturally branch, right? Make a loop out of a long vine, so that the pot looks full even when it isn't? Snip the growing tip to encourage branching? Chop up the vine and plant into the same pot once it grows?

(Winter may not be for growing, but hey, let's visualize growing. Mind before matter! :-)
