Lacunosa Suprise!

Hi everyone,

I was looking over my lush green lacunosa to find a new peduncle and buds! However those pesky mealies are back! I gave it a good spray of water, rubbing alcohol and dishsoap and it's setting to dry now. I hope I didn't spray the buds since I read on here that they'll blast from being hit with alcohol or any sort of movement.

Congratulations! My lacunosa has been dropping leaves and is now almost bald...But I'm happy for you, I swear. :)

Hi Brad, sorry about those pesky mealies, but congrats on your buds...keeping fingers crossed they don't blast.

Hyenas, sorry to hear about your lacunosa. I hope it perks up for you soon!
Pug, thanks for the kind words and support. Keeping my fingers crossed is exactly what I'm doing. I have the side with the peduncle hanging where I can see it. The buds are still there, thankfully!

Yes Brad, congrats on your peduncle. And so sad about the mealies. . . I had a very small bout with them a few weeks ago, but I think I may have this round under control for now. I have watered twice since I treated them and so far no signs of any.

May I ask, did you get the BATS and water it in or just use the alcohol and dishsoap method?
I wanted to make darn sure I didn't leave one behind so I did the alcohol/soap as well as the BATS. The last two times I watered I also sprayed with alcohol, just to make sure.

Good luck, hope you get em all this time. . .

Maid, no I don't have any BATS. I do need to get some though. I isolated the plant to the bathroom, where it's hanging on the shower curtain rod. The mealies aren't too bad, but bad enough for a spraying. I forget the kind of dishsoap I used, but a friend (a co-worker of dad's) I'm giving cuttings to, (the lady who used to work in a flower shop), said to use Ivory dishsoap and warm water and give the plant a bath. I'm wondering how to do that?

Brad, I'm not certain, but I'd take that to mean spray it thourghly with the soapy water. When I sprayed mine with alcohol, I saturated the entire plant, undersides, upsides, everywhere. . . including the pot rims. I have a struggling nummul. (can't remember how to spell the rest of it) ha ha anyway it sits in my kitchen window so I can keep an eye on it. The other day I picked it up to water it. The pot (clay) was slippery, slimmy. And had a white scum all over it. I'm not sure if mealies do this or if it was just water build-up. But I made sure I got evey inch of that pot. Whatever it was, it's gone now. The pot is back to terra cotta and normal looking.

They are a pest that's for sure. . .

Hope you're not too burried on the snow. . .

Maid, thanks for the clarification. That's excactly what I did when I sprayed my plant.

I'm not sure what the problem on your clay pot was, but I'm glad everything's fine now!

No, we're not buried in the snow anymore, we've all been shoveling here in frozen PA! Hope you're not buried in the snow either!
