| I'm finally seeing buds forming on some of my hoyas...hopefully most of them will make it and actually bloom. Thought I would share some bud photos with my hoya friends. Thanks for sharing them with me.

| Oooooooooo. It's such a spectacular display already and they're only getting started! You know how they say your eyes dilate when you see something you are attracted to? I'm betting mine look just like a cat's when it's about to pounce. Funny how publicalyx 'Chimera's buds look like little imp hats. I think I would like my wayetiis more if they got as much color as yours does. They get some color, but nothing like that. Love the freshly showered imperialis picture, too. Makes me want to romp around in your backyard. Thanks for going to the trouble of taking so many pictures to share with us. I just love it!!! |
| Pug, Wow!!You have a boat load of hoyas ready to give you flowers.I so wish my Imperialis would flower or one of my huge Pubicalyx pink silver.Your plants must love you LOL. Way to go. Cindy |
| This time of year is just so exciting isn't it? Can't wait to see the pics of them in full bloom. |
| Congrats, Pug! Nary a sign of a single blossom from my plants, but my carnosa has small peduncles (*I think*) so maybe I'll see something. All the plants look very happy! GG, lol I have the same reactions as you whenever someone posts pictures of buds and/or blooms. I loved your description for RHP's buds. That does fit them well! Brad AKA Moonwolf |
| beautiful pug!!!! just beautiful :) |
| Congratulations, Nancy...they're all so awesome and so very well grown. Jeez, I'd almost love moving to Florida, if I could tolerate the heat and humidity. Thanks a million for sharing the pictures!! Fondly, Patrick |
| Thanks everyone! I really appreciate it! GG, it had just rained right before I took that picture of Imperialis. What a cool way of describing the 'chimera' rhp buds! Cindy, this might be the year your RHP and Imperialis blooms...keeping fingers crossed. Good luck! I have SO many hoyas that haven't bloomed either...I'm SO jealous of your Elliptica blooms...SO beautiful! Renee, you will have several coming up soon...looking forward to pictures. Brad, I bet you will get some peduncles/buds real soon. Appreciate it Jsainz! Patrick, I don't blame you about our extreme heat and humidity here...if I could I would live up North in the summer! We Floridians call them "snowbirds"...people that live in FL in winter and up North in summer,lol... |
| Your Hoyas look so happy outside! That Hoya pubicalyx Pink Silver is going nuts with blooms. Your imperalis is going to be a show stopper when it's time comes, Good growing!!!!! Mike |

| Congrats on all the buds/flowers Nancy!!!! Your hoyas all look happy and healthy and very well grown!!! I have a ton of buds all over the gh but even with the day temps being very warm,we're still having some cool nights and it seems to have slowed the bud development some. We have had weeks of day temps that ranged anywhere from 75-80 and then one night this past week it dropped to the mid 30's. Winter time REALLY needs to be over!!!! |
| Thanks Mike, Josh and David...means a lot! They seem to like it outside with all that heat and slowly rising humidity. David, luckily we've had nothing lower at night below 55 degrees for the last few weeks...so I'm able to leave them outside now till December. Might have to bring them in occasionally and put them under some cover when we get our summer rainy season though...sometimes we get too much rain all at once... Looking forward to more pictures you guys...I love seeing pictures of hoya plants, buds and blooms! Please feel free to post them here. |

| /David I just love those fat white blooms on your subquintuplinervis. And the revoluta is gorgeous! How does the pubescent longifolia grow for you? Thanks for pointing out the purply-pink in the split of the corolla lobes. I wish I could see it in person - very beautiful! /Xuan I love your description of the buds as "chubby." That's the perfect word for it and it makes me smile. |
| David fantastic as usual. I think I have fallen for that Hoya sp Thailand IML 1438, what a great flower. Mike |

| Thanks Pug!! I sorta felt like I was hijack the thread but when I get started posting these flower pics you know I kind of get carried away!!!! GG,I have an hoya from Epiphytica (EPC 619) that should be open any day now that looks like the flowers are going to be quite similar to the subquituplinervis but the foliage is somewhat different. I looked on their website to see if I could find the picture of Jack's plant but either I overlooked it or it has been removed. This is not my first attempt at growing the pubescent longifolia. My first two experiences with it were not good ones!!!! I started those as cuttings from David Liddle and they rooted quickly and even made attempts at putting out some new growth but eventually they both just fizzled out and died. I purchased this new one as an established small plant last year and it is doing great. It's making new growth and as you have seen from the pics ,it's currently in bloom!! I'm finding myself liking the pottsii's more and more as each new one blooms for me. I currently have somewhere between 12-14 different clones in my collection and about half have bloomed so far. Their foliage is neat and on many of them, turns very dark red when grown in high light. I don't know if they will all be available or not but I have 17 more clones of H. pottsii on my current order to Iris Marie!!! Mike that sp. Thailand is a pretty flower. It's quite similar foliage and flower wise to erythrostemma. |
| David, congrats on all your blooms! I agree with Mike about that sp. Thailand! My personal favorite is cv. Jennifer. There's something about those flowers that I just find stunning! Is it an easy one to grow? Is it fragrant? Like I need more hoyas lol. Brad AKA Moonwolf |
| David...NO such thing as hijacking my thread...anyone is welcome to post pictures here. That's what its all about! Having fun and sharing pictures of our hoyas with our Hoya friends! I personally never get enough :o) |

| /David I would just love to see a photograph of this EPC619 when it blooms! Be sure to capture the leaves too, so I can see what you mean. Fun that it shares the same number as your handle. Thanks for the info on pubescent longifolia. I think this one is very interesting, but since I can't even grow the regular longifolia successfully yet, I'll probably kick this down the road. I love pottsii too. I've admired your extravagant pottsii collection before and thought it was a good species to explore like that as it is such a good egg. |

| GG when I bought the EPC 619 I didn't have that in mind. When I saw the picture of Jack's plant I fell in love with the foliage that's why got that one. The leaves are very thick and succulent and in Jack's pic had a really nice red border on them. My plant hasn't produced the border yet but that could be due to how I am growing it. I have also had trouble growing and keeping longifolia alive. I killed several plants and was working on killing another one when I decided to put it into a smaller pot. I t now appears to be happy and is growing so we'll see what happens. I hope all of the pottsii's that I have on my I.L. order are available. I think it'll be quite interesting to see what the foliage and flowers will look like on them all!!! david |

| I hope all the pottsii's are all available too! Your pottsii collection is getting so massive. It's very very cool. I figured you didn't buy it b/c of the number, but if it were me, I'd still have a special fondness for it because of that. Glad I'm not the only one with longifolia troubles. I've got it in chunky coir now, so we'll see how that goes... |

| Nice pic Josh!!!! I'm also glad to see that i'm not alone when it comes to those, funky smelling carnosa blooms!!!! The acuta hoyas can have this same effect when they come into bloom if you grow them in your house. The flowers are VERY highly scented and acuta's tend to open many umbels of flowers all at once. It can become extremely overpowering. Even in my gh which is (18W x 10H x 60L) I can always tell when an acuta is bloom as they fill the entire space with their aroma. One of my favorite hoya scents is that of H. obscura. To me it smells just like fruit loops cereal. Hoya lambii is my personal favorite though with it's sweet spicy scent. It's sort of a blend of vanilla, cinnamon and cloves, sadly the flowers only last for 24 hours though. |

| Thanks guys and gals! ;-) A blend of vanilla, cinnamon, and cloves....now that I could enjoy! Josh |
| Some of the buds have opened and wanted to share them...My favorite scent so far is the Finlaysonii...reminds me of Citrus blooms...Thanks for looking! H.nicholsoniae |
- Posted by greedyghost 5 (My Page) on Mon, Apr 18, 11 at 15:33
| /Pug Just beautiful! Finlaysonii blooms are really something, aren't they? They remind me of an expensive cocktail. I'm disappointed that nicholsoniae is so pretty. I'd lost track of what its blooms look like and since mine has had 1 leaf for about a year now, that was probably for the best. x_x It is currently shooting out this weird lime green horizonal vine. I can't really take it seriously because honestly it looks more like "ew alien parasite!" than "yay springtime!" |

| Thanks GG, Nofaves and Kelly! GG, the Finlaysonii blooms changed color this morning...its gotten much darker pink. It is a cool bloom and I like how you describe it. I hope your nicholsoniae starts to put out some new leaves soon.
Kelly...just for you :o) |

| Great photos Nancy!!!! I particularly like the dikasonia. Which clone of pottsii is that??? david |
| Everyone, they are just beautiful, but Puglvr, that finlaysonii, with the pinker color is just gorgeous. I'm going to have to track one of them down. |
| Thanks Lisa, we must have been posting at about the same time, sorry, I just now saw your post. David, I have NO idea what clone that Pottsii is...I received it as a NOID cutting on a trade and later was ID's here as Pottsii. Renne, that is the same finlaysonii bloom I posted that was cream color a couple days ago. The only thing that might have made the bloom turn darker could be the dappled direct sun it gets a couple of hours in the late afternoon? The blooms on this one doesn't last long at all...maybe 2-3 days. Could be our heat...its already in the low 90's here for the last couple of weeks. |

| Pug those are all beautiful but I find myself drawn to those soft yellow Hoya nicholsoniae blooms. Can I ask how large your plant was before it started to develop peduncles? Good growing! My Hoya wayettii is blooming so I took a couple photos, nothing spectacular. Mike |
| Thanks Josh, I bet yours will bloom soon. Kelly, Max is just a ham...anything for a picture :o) Mike, my Nicholsoniae took a long time to bloom. It was quite large before I ever got my first peduncle last summer or fall? I remembered thinking when this thing would ever bloom since it certainly looked mature and large enough to do so. I have two buds now and a third peduncle is forming. Its been a stingy bloomer till now. That wayetti picture is awesome! I love the way the nectar is almost dripping from it. Very Cool! |

| That rigida is just spectacular. What a great picture! Now I am looking forward to mine blooming even more. /thrill Doesn't vitiensis have the most hilarious blooms? They all look like they're trying to avoid something, like a toddler struggling to step over a puddle or someone lifting their feet off the floor at the sight of a bug. They put me in mind of Maggie Simpson in her snowsuit. |

| Great pictures David!! I also have to chime in and say how awesome that Rigida bloom is. I'm hoping to get a rooted cutting of Rigida from a friend this summer...can't wait! Josh, I love your Obovata blooms...SO pretty! My meliflua openeed this morning...the bloom isn't very big but the color makes up for the size. |

| Josh I like your obovata!!! I have noticed on my plant some of the blooms are quite pink like yours and then again some appear to be more white.I like its' lite sweet fragrance. Nancy,if this is the first time your meliflua has bloomed watch it for dripping nectar. After a day or two it forms large drops of nectar on all of the flowers. GG I like the vitiensis /snowsuit comparison. I checked out the link and the flowers actually do look like the pink and yellow suite at the top of the page!!! I also have the yellow clone of vitiensis but am still waiting to see blooms. The plant formed some peduncles last year so maybe this year they'll do something. |
| Pug those blooms are just so cool looking. Out of all the plants in this section I really only find Hoya meliflua to be interesting enough to grow and that's because of the way the nectar stains the flowers. My plant was very fussy as a cutting for some reason but it's pretty big now so hopefully I will be able to bloom it. Do you notice any scent from the blooms? Mike |

| Thanks!! Josh, Yum...strawberry dessert! Thanks for the warning David...actually I'm good since I grow this one outside. I also have my Kerrii growing outside and heard that they also have the reputation of nectar dripping/staining. My Kerrii's budding for the very first time since I've had it. GG, I will try and get a photo if the nectar stains the blooms. Mike, I had to put my nose right up to it and I barely smell anything...maybe tonight I will try again. Cyclonenat, I can imagine how frustrating it is not to be able to buy hoyas that aren't common. Thanks Pepeuve and Kelly! |

| /dmichael YAY At least one person doesn't think I've lost my mind. ^_^ /dance Can't wait to see the yellow vitiensis. It has a really special purple shade, but I think the yellow is a great fit for that style of bloom. They are both so awesome! /Mike I recently received a meliflua cutting that has been extremely robust, but meliflua ssp. fraterna gave me a lot of problems ... was down to a stick. Lately, I had this "good feeling" about it and this morning I noticed it's putting out some new growth at the top. /cheer /Pepeuve To post photos here, you copy and paste the html code right into the message box. Example: You can put width="300" height="400" before the last ">" to control the size. Like this:
Usually, you can copy and paste this code directly from your photo host, but if you know the url for the photo, you can do it manually (as above). Hope this helps! |

| Thanks Pepeuve...you have good eyesight! Your plant is very pretty and HUGE!! GG, great instructions on how to post pictures! |
| Pug, Very nice flowers on your meliflua, the flowers are so beautiful. I must be doing something wrong with mine,Its huge and grows and grows but no flowers.I also have meliflua ssp. fraterna but its only about a third of its size,it grows slower than meliflua.I guess I will have to be happy looking at yours.LOL Cindy |
| Cindy I am having the opposite problem as you, my fraterna is quite large with what looks like peduncles forming - 1st time yah, my meliflua keeps dying off, it was huge last year but then got too wet when we had alot of rain and couldn't seem to recover but did bloom, this year it is struggling to put out any new growth, maybe I need to snip it and start again. Dee |
| Thanks Cindy! I don't think you're doing anything wrong. I've noticed it took mine a while before getting peduncles...the plant was pretty large before it gave me any...I too started thinking what was wrong with this hoya that it was large enough but didn't bloom...soon after it finally started to produce some. Hang in there... Dee, good luck with the peduncle on your Fraterna, and hope your meliflua recovers. |
| Thanks Dee and pug for the info.I hope the best on your peduncle. Its funny how some hoyas give us problems and for others no issues. Cindy |
| Cindy, I absolutely agree with you...I have several of "problem hoyas" that give me fits too...I've SO envious of your beautiful Elliptica and the blooms are just gorgeous! |
| Thanks Pepeuve! Best regards to you as well! |

| Hi Nancy: I want to send you an email with some important and do not find your email adress. pepeuve gmail.com Best regards. |

| I love absolutely love all of the hoya blooms, but the one that draws my eye back to it, every single time is the Pubicalyx 'chimera'. I absolutely Must get that one! LoL Can anyone explain the scent of this one? Pretty please? =) Also, anyone want to describe the scent of Hoya nummularioides? My DD and I both love the scent of this one but according to my DH, my MIL has a reaction to it. I wasn't here when she came to the home to help with the wood flooring install. So I didn't see the reaction. I know for a fact the crazy woman believes my plants take oxygen from the air, so she thinks I ought to get rid of my plants. LOL I refuse to. I go the passive aggressive route and purchase another every time she makes a remark about it. ;) Yeah, yeah, I know... Not nice. Hehe! Anyway, Absolutely beautiful pictures of your hoyas my friends! Keep it up! I truly love them and really need the cheer so please share them! =) ~Tina |
