Princess Sailor Noid

Hoya identification can be a hot button issue. "What?!," you cry, "I had no idea, Captain Ghosty!"
Thank you very much for the title and the sarcasm, silent readers. Now, let us continue.

Now, I'm not saying you should go home and throw away all your tags, or vow never to attempt to ID a plant again. I was just thinking: I bet everyone here has a few NOIDs on their shelves and maybe we should do a NOID fashion show and take pictures of these little beauties that never get to flaunt their stuff.

Just to be clear, this is not a please-help-me-ID thread. If people want to throw out potential IDs, that's fine, but not at all the point.

This is a place to celebrate the beauty of innocent Hoyas who have had their tags stolen away, and thus might feel a bit marginalized. They can come out of their shells, frolic about, and make some new friends. Maybe we can even inspire some good ol' NOID for NOID trades.

Plants purchased as unidentified sp. do not count!

I have about 5 or so NOIDs that I am going to take pictures of when I get home, but I'm going out tonight after work, so if anyone wants to beat me to the punch, feel free. :)

I don't have any NOIDs to show, but I had to comment on your thread title, as it made me think of my favorite anime/manga series. I fear as if you and I are alone on that interest, GG lol.

lol Yeah I know. But they just added Sailor Moon to Hulu and I've been bombarded with ads, so I wrote that Heading for you. :P

Lol, that was kind of you to write that heading for me :p. I heard they were going to show it on Hulu, but I wish they would do a DVD re-release of the original series. I have yet to finish the manga (and even the anime), even though I already know the storyline lol.

I've actually never seen more than a few episodes of SM. Maybe I should finally get around to watching it. It's hard for me to finish anime series these days b/c I'm never sitting still watching the screen when the TV is on.

Okay, idk if anyone has any interest in this topic, but here are my NOIDs as promised.

This one looks like balansae to me.

    I assume a pottsii

This one I know is from Epiphytica, not that that narrows it down much. ;)

And this is the only one that I created all by my silly self. I stuck a cutting from a plant I was trying to save in my hydro group pot and then didn't tag it because I didn't really think it was going to survive. Well... it did... lol I could probably narrow it down if I looked at the plants that went into my graveyard around 05/2012, but I've been too busy to play detective so far.

See? Very pretty little NOIDs, aren't they? I bet yours are just as pretty!

And to make up for my un-enthusiastically received topic, I'll slip in some cute pictures of my chickens all semi-grown up. I'm taking them back to the farm this weekend, so these are the last photos I'll be able to take of them for a while. :( I'm going to miss them so much!!!

As you can see, Riku is starting to grow the "feather beard" that gives Belgian Bearded d' Anvers their name.

GG your NOIDS look very healthy, and I love the Chickens! I can't help you ID your Hoyas, but do have one of my own to throw out there. I got this one from Joni, labeled as 'NOID came as Montana.' The infuriating thing about this one is that I get peduncles all the time that begin to bud up and then they simply dry up. I call them thread peduncles because of all my Hoyas, I have none that are this thin. It is almost like they are too thin to support buds. I will soon be moving this plant outside to see if I can get this thing to flower over the summer. It is a rampant grower, and I would love to know what it is. Here is a photo of the leaves, and since I don't know how to add several photos to a post I will show the peduncle in the next post.

Here is a photo of the thread peduncles that I am talking about. Each one is between 4 and 5 inches long.

Ooo That's a cool NOID. I loooove long string peduncles. I have one sp. that grows them so long that the flowers always end up on the floor, since it's so small. They're so weird because they start out looking normal and then it's like a mini gravitational field took ahold of them and turned them into a Salvador Dali plant.

I keep looking forward to the stringy caudata peduncles too, but so far no candy.

What a bunch of good-looking pics!

Doug, I wonder if your NOID is a non-viable cross. Not sure I am using the word correctly, but basically a cross that has this genetic characteristic to form long peduncles that are unlikely or impossible to flower. I know in the orchid world, many many more crosses are nixed than are allowed to continue because of their undesirable characteristics. Your plant does have very pretty shiny leaves though!

Eugene, I have never heard of that condition before, but it could make sense. I know that if I can't get it to form flowers by the end of the summer, it will be going on the compost pile. I remember how excited I was to see my first peduncle on it last September. It now has been many months and many peduncles, and nothing. It just taunts me and consumes valuable space.

Well, don't do THAT, Doug!! There are plenty of us out here who will grow a Hoya just for the leaves, so if it comes to that, please offer it up to someone! (MEMEME, LOL!)

I do like this thread, GG, and your chickens are absolutely adorable!! I've always wanted a pet chicken, but my husband is a city boy and thinks it's a stupid idea. I've never seen such pretty chickens as those!

I have a noID I got a few years ago in a trade and it has yet to bloom. It looks similar to potsii, but the leaves are much smaller and don't get that characteristic succulence of potsii. Any ideas?
