Question for Doug...

Hi Doug! I see on your site that you grow H. carnosa ssp. carnosa. I got mine from Carol in 2006 and it has yet to bloom. I am going to be selling some rooted cuttings at my local C&S club show/sale next month and I like to be able to show buyers what the flowers look like, but other than your one photo, I can't find any others. Would you happen to have a more direct-on photo that you could post here and let me use? And if not, can you tell me - are they white like they look in the photo, or more toward the pink that is typical carnosa? And if you have any advice on how to get mine to bloom, I'd sure welcome your input. I have had it produce peduncles, but they have remained dormant, despite the fact that my plant is monstrous!

Hi Denise, you are welcome to any of the few meager photos I have of this plant. It only bloomed one time for me, and I parted ways with it at least two years ago. I had a pretty poor digital camera the one time it did bloom so the photo below is unfortunately the best I have of it. As I remember it, the blooms were white and not towards the pink spectrum. Mine also came from Carol right around the same time yours did.

Thanks, Doug. Did you just get rid of it because it didn't bloom much? I really do like the leaves - the bright green is really attractive. But it IS frustrating that it hasn't yet bloomed. I mean, 8 years is a long time to wait!!

Denise, eight years is almost beyond the range of human endurance to wait for a Hoya bloom:) The reason I got rid of the plant was mostly because it never did all that well for me. It grew nicely in the summer, but really faltered in the winter.
