There are a variety of Hoyas that will do well in direct unfiltered sun, and many that will do very well in dappled light, and many that do well in indirect sun.

The problem is when first taking them outside, they need to be slowly adjusted to it. It's like tanning, the first time a person goes to the beach, they need more protection, than when they have a tan.

Also, something many people don't realize. What looks like bright light inside, is what would be considered deep shade outside. As our eyes adjust to light, we don't really see actual light accurately.

As the burns (scab) over and dry, they are usually fine, but sometimes a secondary infection opportunistically will invade, like fungal or bacterial. So keep an eye out for any brown patches that spread. If so, cut it off.

Your plants will recover, and I encourage you to try again, but move them into light slowly.

I know many people grow their Hoyas in deep shade, but I've found that pushing the light limits, giving the plants as much as they take without burning them, I get much faster growth, and much better blooming. But there are some that really need the deep shade, and I learn my lesson with those. It's all about the individual plant.

As for ones I keep in direct full sun for at least 4 hours a day, here in Florida:

cumingiana
australis
limoniaca
imperilas
ciliata
coronaria
sp. somehing or other (oops forget name)
pachyclada
carnosa
obscura

polyneura in the winter only

so for the amount of light, it depends on the Hoya, and how you acclimate it.
