Making your own potting mix --- a question about acidity and lime

Usually I just mix some peat, perlite, and some orchid bark for potting up hoyas. I was reading a book about organic gardening (Eliot Coleman) who suggests adding lime to peat, to neutralize the peat, which is acidic. (He's talking about vegetable gardening, which I also do, but I was thinking in terms of hoyas & container plants).

I'm thinking of doing this for my potting mix. What do others of you think? The eriostemmas like alkaline, what about hoyas as a whole?
