Hey guys,

I'm not new to reading this forum but I am new to posting to any forum whatsoever so please excuse me if I have bad posting etiquette lol. I have been collecting hoyas for about 3 years now and have a collection of about 15 hoyas and counting, so I really appreciate all the info posted on this forum as it has helped me a great deal.

I was craigslisting this past weekend looking for Hoyas and I came across a very large 30+ year old Hoya looking for a new home... I made her an offer of $110 and it was mine... It was definitely a good deal for me in my eyes as it was even larger than I expected and covered in buds ready to bloom. Lol, when I got there to pick it up, we could barely fit it into the back of my mom's van. Anyway the seller had no idea what type it is, all she could tell me is that it has pink blooms, so I took some photos to see if anyone here could help identify it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Here are the photos(I hope I posted them right):

I am sooooo excited that it is about to flower, there are at least fifty peduncles on it, all at different stages. I also have an obovata and a kerrii that are budding as well, these will be my first blooms as a Hoya collector. YAY! :) Here are some photos:

It's an old fashioned carnosa. And that IS a massive one! Don't be too surprised if it drops buds due to the shock of the move. Plants that big and old haven't been moved in a long time and usually go into a bit of shock for awhile. I would keep it in a totally shady spot for this summer - no sun at all. That will help it recover.

Aw, you look so happy next to your new heirloom Hoya. :) If you were wearing safari gear, I'd think you were posing next to your kill. Congratulations!

I'm sure Denise is right and the plant will go through some transition pains, but hopefully some blooms will come through, or it will turn around and bud up again. I know I waited for-ev-er for my carnosa to flower and once it started I was in seventh heaven because it just goes and goes and goes.

Look at all those buds on kerriii and obovata! You have some happy plants there. I love how in that aerial shot they seem to be making a big spiral. It's totally dorky but getting your first Hoya buds feels just like getting your driver's license and going on that first solo cruise.

Anyway, nice to have you sharing pictures and coming out of the lurker closet. I know it's totally embarrassing to have the code not work, but I think we all pretty much start out with an embarrassing photo malfunction, so your learning curve is still pretty steep. :P

Denise - Thanks for the info :) I thought that was what it might be, I've just never seen the leaves on a carnosa so veiny like that before lol. I had my hubby put a shade screen over our patio cover to keep any direct sunlight from coming through so it will be a nice shady spot for the plant to recover from the move.

GreedyGhost - haha it was embarrassing... Im just glad I eventually figured it out. Now that i know how to post properly I will post some photos of the blooms as soon as they open... So excited :)

OMG what a PLANT! Such a great find right? I wonder how old that plant is?

Yes it was definitely a score, Especially to find it on Craigslist! :) The woman I bought it from gave me some good history on it. She said that her 96 year old mother potted it in the late 60's or early 70's and that it came from a Hoya grower in Oceanside, Ca. So since I can be sure it was around in 1980, I know it is definitely at least 32 years old and quite possibly over 40 years old. It has been in the pot it is currently in for 14 years, not sure if/when I should worry about repotting it, but I am following Denise's advise and just letting it acclimate in a completely shady spot for a while. The blooms looked like they were going to open any minute the other day... But I'm still anxiously awaiting. It will be worth it though as the plant has 12 clusters, that I can count, at about the same stage so it will be nice to have it covered with blooms all at the same time.

Just out of curiousity, I am wondering, if this plant belonged to any collectors reading this, how much they would have been willing to sell it for? I feel like I got such a good deal because I personally would have wanted more than the $110 I paid for it if I was selling it. But who knows, maybe I overpaid, what do you guys think?
