Hi Dalette, what type of Bayer did you spray it with? If it were mine, I would isolate it for a while till you're sure you don't see any more...in case some eggs hatch later. You can remove the bug from the leaf so it shouldn't be necessary to remove the leaf. Good luck!

Just remove the mealy and mist the plant with alcohol. So far, I haven't had to use Bayer (cross fingers) I just pick the buggers off, then spray with alcohol, then, when that's dry, I spray with my neem solution, every 3-5 days for 2 weeks. Seems to do the trick. :)

If the Bayer product is a systemic you need to water the plant with it so that it can be taken up by the roots. I believe that most of Bayers products are used this way. Make sure to follow the directions and take personal percations like wearing long sleved shirt, pants and gloves if there is any chance of getting the insecticide on yourself. You don't usually need to use harsh insecticides unless there is a bad pest problem so if there is only a few bugs just follow Carolyns directions. Dish soap and water is also a good spray to use on bugs and it's safe and not expensive to make, you can add rubbing alchacol to the solution as well.

I used a product called bayer advanced and i sprayed the plant...i did get some on my hands ,but i washed them really well right away....next time i will put on gloves..

Here's my recipe:

28 oz water
1.5 tsp neem oil
1 tsp ivory dish soap (NOT the ultra)
4 oz rubbing alcohol

Seems to "kill em dead" :) Good luck

Just looking at this forum for a solution to a problem I have with a hoya. Aphids on the flowers and new growth. Will your solution work on those? I just hate using pesticides when something else will work.

Well, it will work on the new growth, and if you spray it directly on the flowers, it will . . . but it will probably kill the flowers. :( Just a warning. But, yes, it's what I use on aphids, too.

Oh, and repeat every 3-5 days for 2-3 weeks. Stops the reproductive cycle
