Red Buttons from CBFM

I couldn't take it anymore, I had to buy red buttons. It's been on my list from the very beginning, so I ordered from cowboyflowerman, even though I saw some people didn't like them. Has anyone got Red Buttons from them before? I'm wondering how big it will be, it said shipped in 4" pot, with at least 2 established plants. So, my first question is, if you have ordered this plant from them, were you happy with it? Secondly, is it a relatively simple plant to take care of, or is it fussy? I have pubicalyx pink silver, and that was just started to take off, from the VB forever ago.

Jaclyn,

I bought this plant from CBFM several years ago, and I am VERY happy with it. Most of my plants from him have not grown much, but this is one that has grown a lot since getting it. It's very easy to take care of also....just water when dry.

Jaclyn,

I got one from CBFM in '07 after I got a cutting from someone and decided I really liked it and wanted more. So here it is, 2 years later and mine has grown like crazy! It has one vine that's over 6' long. New growth is dark and beautiful (I grow it in an east window, against the glass), and I really, really like it. I posted a pic over in the gallery and put a link below to the post to give you an idea of how much it's grown. Not only that, but it's got 3 peduncles that I'm hoping will bud up soon!

Good! Thanks Gabi and Denise. Guess I made a good choice then! This has got to be one of my fav hoya blooms too, so I am doubly excited! If I get anymore I'll make sure to ask before, because I want ones that grow! The ones I got from the Violet Barn also have grown really slow! (the three that survived) But, it seems like they are just starting to take off, especially polyneura and pink silver...
Thanks! Can't wait to get it!

Jaclyn,

If you want good (fast) growers, another good choice is fungii if you don't already have it. And australis ssp. tenuipes (stand back - it'll take over!!!) Your polyneura will be a good grower. Mine has gotten so large that I decided to chop it up this year, so now I've got two smaller ones (which are already growing like weeds) and have a few to sell off, and my mother plant still needs to be finished off for more cuttings. (Then I keep "mama plant" and they usually come back to be lush, beautiful plants...) H. javanica (aka multiflora) is another one that gets large FAST.

Once you start getting a good collection of largish plants, you'll start considering space a "premium" and will cherish the smaller ones and the slower-growing ones!

Hey Denise, thanks for the suggestions, of course I need all those lol! I really want australis because I once had a little cutting that perished =( I was so sad, because I don't have any that have white blooms, but also i've seen some fungii that have whiteblooms and they are so beautiful. I have to slow down a little, because I have a house now as of recently, and now have a WHOLE yard to fix up!!! I'm so excited though. Will put those on my list again, need to find a larger australis, it was lizard isle though.

Thanks,
Jaclyn

That does look like a nice big plant, much bigger than the pubicalax cutting I started with. You should be able to pot that up soon and have it grow for the rest of the summer. Are you planning on using a trellis to support the plant?

I know nancy, I am still in awe, it's so pretty! Mike, I did pot it up a bit and put in a trellis type thing, it's like a bamboo ladder thing...I'll post a pic.

Hey Mike, this is what I use, because there aren't too many places that sell the bamboo hoops that most people have. I found these at home depot with the orchids.

I like the look of the bamboo ladder and it will work great for when you have to train the long vines back onto the support.

Mine doesn't do the twiney thing, but just wants to hang. You'll probably have to clip it to keep it trained. But it will fill out nicely and look good, I'm sure. It's a really nice-sized plant. Mine was quite a bit smaller, so yours should be a monster in no time at all!!

Denise,
I'll probably keep it like this for a year or so, and then take off the ladder, I like my hoyas as hanging baskets mostly, or at least to hang. I don't like to clip them up really. I can't wait til it grows bigger, is this hoya an easy bloomer?
