Yet another ID needed...

I thought this sad looking plant was a dischidia until I saw the old umbels. Does any one know what hoya it is? Each leaf is about 3/4" long.

| Trini, Very cute Hoya! The leaf size/shape reminds me a bit of curtisii, but the look of the leaf reminds me of yet another clone of verticillata. I, apparently, am particularly attracted to this species becuase I have several of them. So I must inquire where you got this very tiny-leaved variety?? Denise in Omaha |

Trini, Looks like one of the H. lacunosas to me...the blooms will tell all. Joni |

| Joni, someone told me that it looked like a lacunosa but the leaves are very thick. Denise, I got it from a local collector/friend. His collection is pretty old so I am not sure how long he has had this one. Funny, he mentioned it may be a curtisii, but he was not sure. This hoya naming business is so tricky, so I guess I will wait for blooms and post the pix at that time. :) Thanks T- |

| Can you take a close up of a leaf? If the leaves have little depressions in them (lacanose) it may be Hoya lacanosa or a related species. The woody looking stem throws me off but it may just be an old portion of the plant, does new growth look the same? Mike |

| Here is a close-up picture. The white stuff on the leaves is water stains. The leaves are also a little chlorotic. I don't have any new growth to show. The vine has all old growth which is very woody. I compared the leaves to my dischidia hirsuta and they were almost identical. It is a hoya however because of the old umbel.

| I have both curtisii (it has speckled leaves) and lacunosa and I don't think it's either of those but it does look a bit like my small leaf cumingiana, it has woody stems on it's old growth and the leaves are thick but I'm not real sure on that either. Jo |

Yeah I am stumped, could be a Dischidia sp as well. I think you are going to need flowers on this one to get an ID. Keep us posted I am intrigued Mike |

| You know, Trini, it could still be a Dischidia. I have a Dischida I got this winter that has old peduncles that look just like Hoya peduncles, unlike most Dischidias. I'll get a photo and post it over in the gallery here in a few minutes so you can see what I mean. Denise in Omaha |

Denise, I am leaning in that direction too. The peduncle (which I mistakenly called an umbel---a new-to-hoya error) is what has me confused. They are quite large. Unfortunately, I did not see what was attached to those peduncles. The more I search the web, is the more info I find that IDs this as a dischidia. The closest I came to finding a lacunosa that looks like it was Hoya lacunosa 'Langkawi Island', but that has larger leaves and is speckled. So, at this point, the vote leans towards Dischida sp. Time (and blooms) will tell. :) Thanks T |

| To me it looks like H. lacunosa that has been grown in very good light. I have a hard time growing H. lacunosa and the leaves on my plants almost always end up looking like those leaves, after I've grown the plant for a while. If you can make two plants from the cuttings you have, put one in lower light and keep one in good light and see if the leaves change at all. I think in lower light, those leaves will look more like H. lacunosa. The leaves seem to have the surface texture of H. laucnosa leaves. Good luck, Mike |
