The plant will probably make new growth just fine. Also, you can root that stem you broke off.

Definitely try to root the part that broke off. If it's a decent size you may even want to break it up into several 2 node cuttings to root.

Does the stem have a leaf? It tends to need at least one leaf to root on its own. Yes, the parent plant is likely to grow new growth to replace it.
