Anybody know a source for hanging baskets that aren't huge?

I've been trying to find hanging baskets, but everything I find is either the outdoor kind that needs a coir liner, or those huge plastic 8-12 in diameter varieties. My hoyas aren't very big yet, and those pots would be way too large. Anyone know of a good online source to find 4-6 in hanging baskets? I found some at Logee's but two issues: one, I'm hoping to find something a little more bowl shaped, and two, I'm going to have a really hard time ordering from Logee's without also ordering more plants, and at the moment I need more plants like I need a hole in the head : ) And it would be nice to choose from a variety of options, anyway.

Quinn,

I order small hanging pots from Awanda. I'll put a link below to her website.

Denise in Omaha

Here is a link that might be useful: Awanda's site

Logee's also has small hanging baskets, in a terra-cotta color.
I've ordered many from Awanda in the past, too!

What I have recently done is put the small pots that the hoyas are in into the bigger hanging baskets. This is my adaptation to not being able to find smaller hanging baskets!

hmm...I never really thought about hanging baskets. I just put mine in the size pot that works and if I want to hang it I make the hangers...which I need to do soon. I make simple hangers and have been known to cut the hanger apart to repot.

Laura,
Do you have a picture of your home-made pot hangers?

I used to make hangers. I haven't done it in a long time. I should make one or two sometime to see if I still remember how, after my eyes recover a bit from making bracelets : ) The one nice thing about some of the purchased hanging baskets, though, is that the hangers are rigid, and easier to hang up without needing a chair or ladder.

I placed an order with Awanda last week, but I have a feeling it's not going through. First there was some weirdness with the site itself. Then it said I could pay by credit card through Paypal even though I don't have a Paypal acct, but then it didn't give me a way to enter my info. And I haven't heard anything from her asking me to pay or acknowledging my order. Oh well. Maybe fate is telling me to make hangers, ha.

Laura,
I like the hangers, are they hard or really time consuming? Fairly cheap? They look great. So what are the hoyas in your pictures.

Quinn,
I too like the sturdyness of the purchased hangers.

Denise, how did you place an order on Awanda's site? I picked out a few items, filled out the regestration form. Then got an error..Said, 'your first and last name must have 10 characters.' lol..What on earth?
I emailed the owner..The little hanging pots are so cute.

Hey Nan..How ya doing? I used to be a Logees regular. Especially in the mid to late 90s..Then, their prices esculated and plant sizes decreased. Not to mention plants that were either dead on arrival or lasted 2-3 days..It's too bad because they have many varieties.
I clicked on your link to Logees..and sure enough the hanging pot is 9.99. I should have looked closer..Is that for one pot?
Ironically, they have the same pots at a dollar store for, well 1.00! Walmart sells 10"ers for 2.99..Just goes to show my point.

BTW, Awandas sells VF-11. Does anyone use this, 'fertilizer?' If so, how do you like it?
I can't remember if I read an article about VF-ll or Messenger, but one warns not to use other fertilizers w/the VF-11 or Messenger..Anyone have info? Thanks, Toni

Toni, Logee's sells that hanging pot in a 10 pack, so it's 10 for 9.99. I personally have had no problems with Logee's plants, they've only died through my own failings : (

I too tried to place an order on Awanda's site, and even got around the whole 10 character thing by putting dashes after my name, but to no avail. I never heard anything back about the order. However, I'm not out any money either, because I wasn't able to pay anyway; it said I could pay via Paypal, but then didn't give me a way to do it. Let me know if you hear anything back.

RE: Anybody know a source for hanging baskets that aren't huge?

Quinn, I wrote to the owner yesterday..He replied saying he's been having problems with that site. He also asked which products I was interested in ordering.
I wish I knew more about Eleanor's VF-11, then make a decision whether or not to buy it.

Quinn, like I said, in the 90's I was a dedicated Logees customer. I still have quite a few of their plants.
The only problem back then was their shipping prices. 7 plants for 11.00..But shipping costs didn't stop me from ordering either..lol
Then, around 1999-2000, I placed an order. What a disappointment! First, they decreased pot sizes from 4" to 2 1/4"..but, worse, while reducing size, they increased prices AND shipping. I order quite a bit, and know what shipping costs should be. They went overboard.
Still, as long as they sent decent plants I figured it was worth it..Then everything went downhill.
I placed an order, including a variegated lemon tree..Quinn, the so-called citrus was no larger than 2" and was gone within days..soil was dry from its shipping ride, not wrapped properly. Still 2"!! Besides, it was an ungrafted seedling. They didn't mention that. For the price, I was expecting, at the least, a small but grafted citrus.
There were other plants that were dead upon arrival..even ST couldn't save them.
The last order included an Acalypha. A DEAD Acalypha. This time I phoned customer service. The woman was very nice, helpful. She must have read over previous orders because she said, 'I certainly will replace your plant, we don't want to lose you as a customer.' And she did..the second Acalypha was gorgeous. Why didn't they send the second plant in the first place? So, after $150+ later, I never again ordered from Logees. There are too many nurseries around that ship big, healthy plants. I admit, some have a tendency to up S&H, but considering prices and sizes of plants, (most 4"ers) it's worth it.
I don't want to down Logees..Perhaps they're sending larger plants and packing securely..It's been years since my last order, so I can't say. As long as consumers are satisfied with their purchases, that's all that matters.
Then again, two people on the Fragrant forum who recently ordered from Logees complained their plants were loaded with insects.
Quinn, I'm not going to say I've never killed a plant, but if I receive a new plant that's dead or half-dead, I can't take the blame. Toni

PS. If you're still interested in the small, hanging baskets, email the owner. I'll let you know how it goes.

RE: Anybody know a source for hanging baskets that aren't huge?

For those interested, I use VF-11. Denise introduced it to me this spring. I have to order it as there is no local distributer. In paying for postage it gets pretty high, but my sister and I went in on it together, making more affordable.

Here's what I found, greener leaves on all my plants, cuttings of hoyas rooted very fast, new growth in some othrwise stagnant plants, no pests, (but I have never had any in the past either). There really is a difference that could see, but. . . me being a skeptic, I wonder. . . it was spring when I started to use it, everything comes to life in the spring so was it VF-11 or ma nature? It's like I say w/ anti wrinkle cream. . . I don't know if it's working, but I don't want to stop using it to find out LOL.

I'm still using it, but need to buy more. I also tried a cheaper product called spray-n-grow. I got the fertilizer and the foliage spray, I used inside and out, liked it too, but you have to wait 15 mins to use it after you mix it and it doesn't keep once mixed, 6 hour window.

VF-11 is used for watering and spraying while Spray-n-grow you use 2 different products one to water with and one to spray with. But I'm gonna stick w/VF-11, I don't have anything bad to say about it.

Didn't mean to high jack the thread, just thought I'd jump in on the VF-11 ??'s.
