That strong sun will be good for blooming, but I don't like the look of washed-out leaves, and sunburned is just plain ugly as far as I'm concerned. I would rather have a beautiful, green, lush plant with no or few flowers than one with washed out leaves that's covered in flowers. It's just my preference, because few species flower continuously, so most only flower a short time and then you spend the rest of the year looking at the foliage.

What few I grow outside, I hang in my tree, so they only get some dappled afternoon sun. A couple others are on my south covered porch and get only reflected bright light. The rest stay in the house year round.

Do you have room to set up a shade cloth? Maybe get 4 t-posts or tall stakes and tie a pice of canvas or something to it.

Could you take a picture of your yard so we can see more of what you're dealing with?

Even a relatively cloudy day outside exposes a plants to a great deal of light when you consider the conditions a plant experiences while indoors. I would move the plants to a shadier location because sun damage will not go away.

Denise, I agree with you! The sunburned leaves make them look terrible! However, I am getting lots and lots of new growth!
