While I do not grow this particular hoya, I've grown plants and gardened for many years. I'm thinking that with mealies and treatment, your plant is significantly compromised and stuggling not only to regenerate its root system but also support its top growth. If it were my plant, I would cut it way back (and root the cuttings) and let the roots dry out a bit before repotting in a fresh mix and disinfected pot. The reduction in top growth will allow it to focus its energy on developing a strong and healthy root system but you will likely not see any new growth above the soil for some time. Hope this helps.

As long as you use bottom heat and a high humidity environment to root the cutting you should be successful. The current root system will be weakened and it may allow disease to get hold and further stress the plant even after the pests are dealt with.
How many nodes would the cutting be?

Well, last night I took the plunge and cut it into two approx. three-node pieces. Placed it in water laced with Superthrive for the night. This morning, I put the cuttings in well-draining soil with a little rooting powder on the heat mat in a baggie. The cuttings don't look too bad, all green and healthy, so I will cross my fingers and hope.

As good news today - I had to repot my Hoya lyi (sp square?) because there was mould on the soil and it's got lovely roots :)

Hi Hillary, how are you? I've lost my praetorii/lasintha to the root mealies. Mine wasn't big enogh to cut & save, I think you did the right thing by cutting in 2 so you have better chance of rooting them.

Well unfortunately I came back to find all the cuttings had yellow leaves which had fallen off :( I wonder whether it's because I had to go away for a week and it didn't get watered enough. I am now trying to work out what to do with the original plant, which is still looking a bit sick. I should have left it until I came back... sigh
