Nectar??

I was walking thru the greenhouse and my arm brushed against a hoya bloom. It had drops of what I thought was water on the bloom but it turned out to be a viscous liquid, maybe the consistency of thick maple syrup. It was a burgundy color and sticky. It's an old bloom and is just starting to drop. Is this normal? Is it nectar? I've never noticed it before but then again I've never paid much attention to them either. I think it's a kerrii, heart shaped leaves and the flower is white with a dark red center.
