Apparently I have contrary luck with cuttings

So, I mentioned I traded with Kelly semi-recently, and acquired an elliptica cutting. I didn't mention that I also got lobbii, chlorantha and fungii. All looked good on arrival, with the possible exception of chlorantha, but today, elliptica looks great, chlorantha is starting new growth, lobbii looks good even though it isn't doing anything, and fungii... is dead. ?? It seems my contrary orchid luck goes for hoyas too... I have troubles with the so-called easy beginner orchids and great luck with the picky harder to grow orchids. Patella, lambii, elliptica are a few of the trickier ones I have that are actually doing pretty good, whereas I've now lost fungii, a pot of mystery carnosas, have the slowest growing pubicalyx ever...

Maybe I should go ahead and try lasiantha, caudata, imbricata, and microphylla, see what happens. Sheesh.
