| The new Asklepios magazine from the International Asklepios Society has come out and there are several Hoya related articles. Dale Kloppenburgh has published a new Hoya species, Hoya umbudensis and a new subspecies, Hoya recurvula subsp. bokorensis.
Ted Green has also published Hoya sp Rundum as Hoya plicata subsp. rundumensis, Sabah Maylasia. The magazine is finished with a short article about a new Hoya cultivar, an unknown cross with Hoya obovata as one of the parents. The plant has large veined leaves that to me resemble a cross of Hoya obovata and Hoya fungii but that is just a superficial observation on my part. Mike |
Follow-Up Postings:
|
| Oops, the Hoya obovata hybrid is called Hoya cv. Hagar. Mike |

| The magazine is quarterly but of high quality. The articles cover the entire Asclepidaceae family so there are articles on succulents, milkweeds, Hoyas etc from around the world. When new species are formally described they have to be published and this is the premier magazine when it comes to Asclepiads. Check out the index of Asklepios issues for past issues and their article indexes. This past year there have been a good number of new Hoyas published or old Hoyas given proper names. Members also have access to the seed bank which offers seed of succulent Stapeliads and other Asclepiads as well as rare plants from Africa and around the world. Importing seed into the U.S has been made difficult in the past few years so Americans need to apply for a permit but there is an online website to help with that as well. If you check the back issue numbers from about issue 89-90 up to the current 108 you will get a good idea of the content and quality of photography. You may be able to order back issues without subscribing so that you can make more informed decision, just email and ask. Mike |

| Wow, the cover photos are phenonmenal... |
|
| There was a great article showing how to use photo stacking programs to get perfect depth of field and focus over an entire subject. A Stapleiad flower was used and every part of the flower was in prefect focus after taking several photos using a tripod and then stacking them with editing software, Issue #104 if you're interested.
