That's a pretty one! And contgrats on your first Hoya. I have a feeling that's an EA (Exotic Angel) Hoya, and they're really hard to repot. They usually consist of a whole lot of cuttings jammed in one pot, and then I think they force them with a lot of fertilizer to grow fast and lush. If it can be done gently, remove as much of the old EA soil as possible. Their mix works well in their environment, I'm sure, but I think it's awful for using in the home environment.

Once you get it repotted, keep it in a shady spot until you're sure it's settled in good - at least a month or so. It should bounce back nicely and welcome the new soil. Oh, and I grow almost all of mine in plastic, however if you tend to overwater, clay might work better for you.

Denise, It is an EA. I know it's been way over watered the poor thing weighs a ton! From looking at it well from what I can see because it's so dense it seems like it's a lot of cutting jammed in there. Will be repotting sometime today, I'm sure it will be fun. I usually have everything in clay and water my other plants about 1-2 times a week depending on if they need it. Might stay with plastic so I can keep it hung up

I heard some opinions / speculations that EA folks have changed their soil and now they take repots easier. That may be, but when I repotted a couple of EA hoyas (not this one) last year, they took MONTHS to recover. But then they started growing and both bloomed soon thereafter.

I would advise two things:

(1) hold on with the repot till spring when days will be getting longer and things will be more inclined to grow and more forgiving of repots (but sounds like you may have already done it, in which case never mind), and

(2) if having this variety of hoya is important to you, take a few cuttings to plant in a small separate pot as insurance in case the plant dies.

I actually think it will be OK. Carnosas are pretty hard to kill - you'll have to try really hard.

Many people do not repot EA plants at all, or not for years, and they seem fine. Hoyas do not mind and even like tight roots.
