Testing out the Oasis watering system

Alright, haven't been on the forum in a while, but I thought I'd post about this. I am going on a roughly 17 day trip this Saturday and my gravity fed drip irrigation system did not cut it last time - in that it wanted to drip out all the water all at once (within two days max) and then nothing. That was marginally ok for a week long trip but will probably be really bad for a 17 day trip. I remember Mike mentioning the Oasis system in the past, so I decided to give it a try. It was either that, or trust the roommates to water them properly. I am a little OCD about it, so I'd rather I try this out instead. That way I have only myself to blame :)

So, I will be setting this up in the next day or so. I'll let you know what I think! I need to give it a trial run before I try and actually depend on it.

Yeah, I'd love to see pics and hear a review about it. *coughs* my daughter got a Fail! on her job of watering. LoL I was gone a week and half. LoL Can't take a trip again, until I find a reliable way of taking care of my lovelies. :)

Quinn I usually have a friend or family member come over after about a week and refill the reservoir. Most of my plants are good for about a week and the ones that want to stay moist I set on self watering tray made with a plastic tote and some capillary matting.
Could you get your roommate to fill the reservoir?

Here are some photos of my system set up to care for the plants for a two week period. It's interesting to see the plants at this size because they are so much larger now.

Nice set-up Mike. I'll have to show DH this and let him know he's going to have to rig up something before we're going -anywhere- else again. I am -not- losing any of my lovelies simply because my daughter cannot listen! lol

Mike your collection seems surreal. I would have imagine everything to be a tangled mass of vines leaves and flowers.

Get some tangled mess in there so it can look like a real hoya!

Those are old photos and the plants are not four or five feet tall and it looks like one big mess of lovely weeds. Lol
I should take a comparison photo.

In the first photo you can see Hoya meliflua in the yellow pot, just a wee little thing. Now here is a photo of the plant blooming a little while ago, it's about to bloom again in a couple weeks.

The rest of the plants are of similar size or larger although some have not bloomed yet. I am seeing some improved growth and vigor after I started using MSU fertilizer as well as a high P fertilizer. I had been using a fish based organic fertilizer but did not notice near the growth I am now.
