I would say you have a mix of medium to fast growers, nothing terribly slow growing anyways.
When you trim a Hoyas stem it will usually start new growth from the node just behind the cut. New growth can happen quickly but often times the plant rests for a bit before it begins to grow again.
The Hoyas called Jungle Garden and Red Buttons are Hoya pubicalyx varieties, both with slightly different characteristics such as leaf or bloom colour.

I laughed when I read the last part of your post, I would hate for your partner to meet me. LOL
I say sneak in a few Hoyas. :)

Here are 2 of my favorite tricks for pulling the wool over my partners eyes.
1. I went to a plant show with a friend and found something I really wanted but had been read the riot act about no more plants. So I bought it anyways and gave it to my friend to "keep" for me until the weekend. So she shows up for dinner on Saturday night with a wonderful gift for me and nothing could be said about it.
2. Buy whatever you want sneak into the house and put it on the plant shelf with everything else then if your partner ever comments about the new plant say, "Oh, I have had that one for months; don't you remember me showing it you when I bought it?" This one worked for me and it took over 2 months before it was noticed and I had put it on the end table in the living room.
