Lauterbachii is pretty straightforward, as far as rooting goes, but this plant does not like being moved, likes bright light, high humidity, likes being kept warm, and needs to reach 6-8ft vertical height before it will bloom. It is one of my pickier hoyas (it is actually an eriostemma, related to hoyas), but seems to be thriving, at least for now. I had no trouble rooting it in my mix (1:1:1 ratio of perlite, 1/8 inch pebble, orchid bark), except that I had to put it in a very large clear plastic bag to keep the humidity up while it was rooting because it didn't fit in my humidity tank. Just keep the potting media damp, humidity high, and light bright, but not direct, keep the cutting in a warm place and it should root with no issues. If you wanted, you could certainly make two cuttings.
Edited to add that getting this thing to bloom is the hard part about growing it. I have yet to see blooms on mine and it is 6 and 1/2 feet.
